Hi @victor5211
I took weekly actonel a while back and after a few months I had to stop. Similarly to when I took Fosamax, I experienced severe nausea, being lightheaded, and weight loss.
My doctor didn’t mention trying a daily dose, not sure it would have made a difference.
Just saw the endocrinologist today and she immediately had me go off actonel 35 mg. once a week due to the fact I am having issues swallowing food. I am having an esophagram swallowing barium test in two weeks. She was worried the actonel would "burn"my esophagus!!!! This is after having a one time prolia shot which I had terrible side effects from. Just had a Bone Density scan and actually everything improved-. I decided to take a drug holiday for a while to get over all these side effects. She wanted to put me on Tymlos and I said no- I don't want any further side effects. I am very fit exercise about 11 hours a week- lots of strength training and cardio. I am 76.
You know are we all just guinea pigs? I am tracking donations by AMGEN (Prolia manufacturers). Unbelievable. I expect it's the same for all the drug companies. Disheartening for the genuine drs out there who actually care.
I found YouTube such a good source of expertise as long as you pick and choose. Good luck. I too am 76 and exercise xx
I have taken the 35 mg delayed release Actonel for about 6 months following the year of Evinity. This form of Actonel is taken immediately after eating breakfast. Haven’t had any side effects.
Won’t have DEXA until Sept 2025, but hoping this helps maintain gains following Evinity.
Thank you for that. Re Actonel. My problem is l am taking it at the moment after Prolia discontinuance. Apparently it is not strong enough to counteract the Rebound effect from the Prolia which therefore results in a high fracture risk. I may have to go on zoledronic acid which can have massive side effects (as recorded on this discussion group). Take care.
