Bone Coach - How do you know it works?

Posted by sheilad1 @sheilad1, Dec 13, 2022

I have seen several people here joined Bone Coach. How do you know your osteoperosis is better. The testimonials talk about general health improving which adherence to any healthy diet may have done the same.
There is no science shown. It's pricey but worth it if it works.

I had no noticeable side effects with forteo or evenity. Gains with both but best gains with evenity. The side effects that scare the hell out of me are compression fractures from untreated osteoporosis! My individual route on this bone journey.

I also have had no side effects from my medications of Alendronate and now Tymlos.
I am recovering from an L3 fracture and that is now scarier than any medication or side effect..
I would put up with a list of negative side effects to avoid going through this again. Although I was afraid and opposed to medication, I started Tymlos after my fracture, Tymlos is now my good friend and I am thankful for it. The pain I experience brought about a complete turnaround in thought about medication.
I wish you all safe and well.

You should get an award for your comments

on how services and products are being pushed

by various websites and 'influencers'.

I am appalled at what I see lately on the web.

Eventually I had that 'haha' moment and am very selective

which webinars to attend - and have unsubscribed

from many.

I subscribe to very few:

I like and put Osteoboston on my ok list.

We are here on this Forum

to help and give back views of our own experience:

However -

I would say - everyone should do due diligence, approach these websites

with a double healthy dose of skepticism.

Research as much as you can, from as many sources as possible.

Some, many websites and influencers profit from you –

inverse to the help you are going to get.

And put a zipper on your wallet. Maybe even a lock.

Thank you for the kind words. I watched a few videos of Margie Bissinger’s Summit and the one with Green Keto completely turned me off. The presenter called herself “ Girlfriend’s Doctor “. I read on this forum that Dr Rubin Clinton has conflict of interest. If anyone here who knows more about it can elaborate, it will help all of us. Have you noticed that the Summit was sponsored by Marodyne, the company that makes the vibration device that his research backs ?

I have had 8 compression fractures and have been on the AlgeCal regiment for 4 years. Dexa has improved but fractures are occurring at a more rapid rate every 6 months. Hoped Kevin Ellis' program would be the next step but from what I've read here I'm concerned about the lack of science too. I don't want to go on medication. Tymelos is what is being recommend my several doctors and I'm worried that it's only been on the market for 6 years. Being on steroids approximately 15 years ago is the reason my osteoporosis is so severe. I will listen to his podcasts. Thanks for the comments.

I had a terrible experience with Forteo, which I believe is Tymelos. I wish I could post pictures here of the severe drug reaction that swelled my legs to the point that they were distorted and a rash that was worse than being thrown into a fire ant pit.
Since then, I have been taking a collagen peptide called fortibone. Research it on Google Scholar. I just had a dexi and have put bone mass back on my hips and femoral head. Unfortunately, I lost more on my spine.

psanchez33617,
The leg swelling and the rash sounds like an allergic reaction to Forteo. Tymlos is a similar drug that you might not be allergic to. These two drugs are created in completely different environments. I am curious about how long it took for your legs to swell. Was it after the initial injection, after several, or a week in. You might try Tymlos as it works well in the spine. Then again. How much mass did you gain in the hips and femoral head on fortibone.

Greetings everyone!
I have very low bone density and my endocrinologist prescribed Fosamax, which I do not want to take because of its side effects.
Has anyone tried these bone supplements, Calciven or OceanEssence? There are so many products on the market and uncertain which ones truly work?
Please share your comments.
Thank you kindly,
Esther

Hello @oliversolis1212
I looked up Ocean Essence on web: I am trying to make it brief.
I apologize for 'shouting' it is a direct copy and paste

What are the ingredients in Ocean Essence?
WHITEFISH, HERRING, WHITEFISH MEAL, HERRING MEAL, QUINOA, PUMPKIN, OLIVE OIL, DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, NATURAL WHITEFISH FLAVOR, CALCIUM CARBONATE, SALT, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, DL-METHIONINE, TAURINE, VITAMINS (VITAMIN A ACETATE, VITAMIN D3 SUPPLEMENT, VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT, NIACIN SUPPLEMENT, D-CALCIUM

I would confirm these ingredients with the label on product.

This appears to be marine not a bovine supplement.
It does not appear to have collagen Type 1 or Type 3 which is considered
beneficial for bones.
Ocean Essence also appears to have Calcium Carbonate -
a calcium which you can buy on its own.
Choline Chloride is interesting: there are studies on it mentioned
on the web.
It also has other 'supplementation' I would be judicious in taking.

I would not personally be buying this product for bone health.
I would look for Fortibone (Gelita) brand.
I think Kevin Ellis aka Bone Coach, is mentioned in a thread somewhere
and has a recommendation -
https://healthybonesco.com/products/collagen-peptides
I am still doing my research on brands that
have Fortibone peptides (hydrolized)
"Hydrolyzed" and "peptides" are closely related terms in the context of proteins and their breakdown.
I have not done any further readings on Calciven.
After much research and reading, I am close to making a decision on which Brand to buy.
ConsumerLab on the web (Dr Cooperman a real M.D.) has great
informaton, especially to avoid lead in products you buy.

@nyfl
Thank you for reaching out to me, I noticed
your question this morning and am in a hurry to acknowledge
you.

I want to text Dr Keith McCormick about his product Osteo-Collagen Pep which mentions Type 1 only.
It is mentioned to be Fortibone, which is from Gelita and has
studies done on it.

Some other products have Type 1 and Type 3.
That's why in one of my earlier post on MayoConnect, I asked how
do we know how much of each is in the (powder) product that we might buy.

I would have confidence in Dr McCormick's product.
My question would be educational as to why he has chosen Type 1 only.
https://www.osteonaturals.com/product/osteo-collagen-pep/
I have other names on my list.
What complicates and takes time to research is the list of added
ingredients. I look at each ingredient in the Collagen Brand
for sale.

These other names might or might not be more cost effective than
Dr McCormick product.

There are some that don't even mention what type of Collagen it is,
and others that mentions mainly the benefits of stronger nails and hair.

One brand has added Vitamin C - why is it added? what type of Vitamin C
is it, does it make it more effective, if not: I can buy vitamin C on its own
probably cheaper, and choose the type of vitamin C that I want.

We need to remember that this supplement takes time to show benefits.
And should be taken, alongside good nutrition,
as much weight bearing and other exercizes that you can safely do
with your osteoporosis condition.

I suppose it could be used alongside osteoporosis meds.
It is difficult to say, which, is it the consistent weight bearing exercizes,
is it the top nutrition intake, is it the drug if you are taking it,
that may give the great gains we want.
It might be a combination of all of them.

I have chosen not to take osteoporosis drugs at this time,
although I have my doctors leaning on me for my 'serious' negative T scores.

We rely on the collagen clinical testing that tells us it is
worthy of our time and expense.
I have some of these tests in my files, will share when I get the time to root them up. Meanwhile, others can share with us what studies they have found to add to our comfort that we are doing the right thing.

It is gratifying to see a thread open up about Collagen.
I look forward to more discussions.
Bev
