Do you know if it's standard practice for antibiotics to be prescribed after TKR surgery? I got a bad staph infection and sepsis as well.

I'm not sure what you mean, but IV antibiotics are given in a high dose during TKR surgery, and usually for up to 24 hours afterwards. If I remember correctly, after hip surgery I was not sent home with oral antibiotics. But then I had to have a second surgery 5 days later to fix a problem - that increased my risk of infection, so in addition to the IV antibiotics, I had to take oral ones for two weeks.

How long after your surgery did you get a staph infection?

Every practice has similar protocols. We, as patients, don't know to ask.
I did not have antibiotics post-surgery but did during. Also the surgery type dictates protocol.
