Hi, I’m new to the group and new to bladder cancer, having been diagnosed about two weeks ago.I had a cystoscopy and it didn’t hurt at all. (If you’re a woman, think pelvic exam.) Be happy you’ve had urine sampled, earlier detection is always better. I hope you are well. Take what I’ve said above as my best thoughts, the learning curve is steep and I am still near the bottom.

I had a urine cytology done last week and the report came back negative for high grade urothelial carcinoma. I read that a negative report does not confirm the absence of cancer. So I'm in a strange limbo. My friends are trying to be supportive but to their ears this report means I don't have cancer and that I need to shut up and quit worrying about it. I'm 74.5 years old and a former smoker and so considered a high risk for cancer. I'm scheduled for a cystoscopy in 3 weeks and hope that there will be concrete evidence either way. Has anyone received a negative cytology report but then received a cancer diagnosis? The quest is to discover the reason for the microscopic blood hematuria in the urine. Grateful for this group.
