It will be interesting to see what drug you will transition on. It helps to have a good endocrinologist. Mine wasn't interested in my side effects of Prolia ("nothing to do with Prolia you must have something else"). He just wanted to infuse me with zoledronic acid. Think you call that Reclast in America.

Yes, whatever it is it won't be good, as none really are; issues with all of them. Hope to get to no drugs at some point if possible!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. So much information out there on social media difficult to decide what is correct.
Aches and pains and since November knee pain. After PT - pain continued results from MRI - torn meniscus on right knee. Surgery scheduled. Left knee also problematic but not as painful as right. Due for my 6th injection in April but decide to delay to May to give me time to recoup from surgery. After reading about others side effects mine have not been as drastic but the longer I stay on Prolia and my age this drug will take a toll on my body. Thank you for your time and support.

"We found that delayed denosumab dosing, even short-term delay of 30 to 90 days, was significantly associated with an increased risk of incident fracture for all clinical fractures as well as vertebral fractures in the following 6-month period. In addition, as the dosing time was further delayed, the risk increased even more. There did not appear to be a substantial influence on fracture risk if the administration was delayed within 30 days of the previous injection. This study further confirms that the timing of subsequent injection is critical in the management of osteoporosis for those treated with denosumab."

I have experienced positive gains with no side effects using Prolia for 5 years. I WISH I had read the study mentioned by Gently before I took a 3-month “holiday” to have a dental implant. My rheumatologist didn’t offer information to help me with decision-making beforehand, she said “I was between a rock and a hard spot”. The 3rd month post dental work I experienced an L-1 acute fracture and L-3 sub acute.
I am moving through mental, emotional and physical implications of fractures wondering what to do next…I had a Prolia injection right after fractures occurred and am now in PT, doing well. My recent DEXA still shows gains.
If anyone has transitioned from Prolia post 5 years of using I would appreciate hearing about your experiences transitioning off of Prolia and or research regarding dental work timing when on Prolia. I’d like to share the information with my Periodontist and Rheumatologist and possibly help others facing this decision.

The best Connect thread on transitioning off Prolia is a thread entitled 'Support for those going off Prolia.' Has many scientific studies cited and good discussion that you may find helpful. Also check out McCormick's Great Bones book.

I used Reclast after Prolia, and then did a one year drug holiday. My numbers stayed level for a while. It might give you an option.

Ok not sure if you want to know this. I didn't know anything about Prolia until l decided to stop it after my 4th injection. Well l have stopped but am now on Actonel. I was told after l stopped that l risked spinal injuries! I have lived with that for 5 months so l have been researching AMGEN, who make it and also the Data from our Australian Therapeutic Licensing Authority. 82 deaths and 2040 reports of adverse effects (most are fractures).
The Authority does not say it was Prolia only one single medication SUSPECTED.

So do not start it. Also in America when you get the information do they tell you it's made from the Ovary Cells from Chinese hamsters? Good luck to all of us. Jenny xx

I had 3 injections of Prolia. Then my hair fell out in great gobs!
I told the doc that I wouldn’t get any more injections.
They put me on Rysedronate. I’ve been on that once a week ever since. No breaks so far - over 2 years. And I feel fine.
My hair is growing back but very slowly.

I am wondering the same thing. My endocrinologist has recommended it after Forteo. Does everyone have major side effects?

Thanks dma053 for starting the discussion.

I am so sorry about that dreadful side effects re your hair. No wonder you stopped Prolia. I went to a GP yesterday about Prolia discontinuance l swear she doesn't know anything about Prolia! We have to do the research ourselves or pay for a specialist. Thanks for sharing. So much knowledge on this discussion group x
