Compression fracture in my back

Are there any medications that help repair a compression fracture in T9 in my back?

I have no pain it was found during an x-ray

rickylucy is this a repetitive use fracture or might you have osteoporosis. There is an osteoporosis medication that speeds healing. The worry with osteoporosis is that a fracture can continue fracturing,

I suffered 2vfractures in vertebrae November 23, was on pain meds. Then surgery, didn't put me out. 1st vertebrae was very unnerving so I asked him to stop & not do 2nd
I am on prednisone due to copy & it does not interact well with prolia
I have looked at fosamax &:think not. Is there an alternatve,,? I am 81 & take calcium & d3. Help

I had one 16 months ago and attributed it to a muscle pull. It was diagnosed on x-ray 4 months later after the pain did not go away.

The fracture had healed by that time and the pain was due to muscle weakness caused by nerve root compression. I did a lot of therapy and back exercises and am only just now getting back to being pain free 95% of the time.

Only the anabolic medications that promote bone growth can contribute to healing. Those are Forteo (teriparatide) and Tymlos (abaloparatide).

Prolia prevents further bone breakdown and is used to treat osteoporosis. I'd suggest clarifying with your doctor as to why they want you to start on that particular medication. Make sure you know all about it and the reasons you are taking it before you start on it. Every medication has pros and cons, along with potential side effects.

To promote healing, you can focus on eating a nutritious diet with plenty of protein, getting good sleep, and taking calcium and Vit D supplements. Again, please discuss with your doctor.

rickylucy63,
I find it intelligent to be afraid of Prolia.
Forteo and Tymlos are the two medications that help heal fractures. I consider them the best osteoporosis medications. One nice thing about them is that you can stop taking them abruptly, if you have negative reactions. They leave your body quickly within 24 hours and there is no rebound from either.
I'm starting a third year on Forteo. If you want more information, I'm happy to respond.

Osteoporosis?

Porous bones, osteoporosis, are systemic which would leave you vulnerable to other skeletal fractures. Have you had a dxa bone scan. Someone is thinking osteoporosis or you wouldn't have been offered Prolia.
With osteoporosis in the spine a person usually has small breakages that the don't feel.
There is a network of tiny spaghettini-like bones that support the structure of each vertebra. A person can fracture myriad individual spicula (as those bones are called) without the painful collapse of the vertebral body. It's called a silent disease, until it announces itself with great pain. https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/spongy-bone-site-of-red-marrow-3x-at-35mm-the-bony-royalty-free-image/139820247?adppopup=true

schallsa, scary. How long have you been on Prolia, and when was your last injection. It is generally considered that Reclast is the best medicine to prevent rebound fractures after Prolia.
Reclast isn't always without complications. Prolia is sometime given with Forteo because it has better results than either drug alone. If your last Prolia were recent I would try to get Forteo added at least for the remaining months of Prolia duration. Forteo expedites the healing of fractures while relieving pain.
What symptoms are you having with the combined medications?
Prednisone and Prolia increase the risk of lung infections. You might call your physician, if you haven't.

Hi there,

I have 2 doses of Evenity left and in the case of my original fracture , it remained unchanged but a recent scan has detected more fracture in my T8 while T7 and T11 remain unchanged.
My Dr wants me to go on Prolia but I am have having second thoughts about going this route.
I am a 57 year old male and I have found this forum very helpful.
Thank you for your time.
