Severe diarrhea during EBRT radiation? Advice, recommendations?
Anyone experience severe diarrhea during EBRT radiation? Two days after 11th session! Oncologist recommends taking Aleve because it's probably caused by inflammation. Dietitian recommends a low fiber diet, which I was following for a month or more already.

Many people get SpaceOAR Before having Prostate cancer radiation to prevent damage to the bowel. You should speak to the doctor about this and ask if maybe your bladder is too full or empty or your bowel is too full. Radiation can cause long-term damage, something that has happened to prostate cancer patients, so you want to at least ask about it.
Loperamide (Immodium) is worth a try if you haven't already done so. My bowels were quite "twitchy" while receiving radiation and didn't calm down for about a month. Now, three months after completing treatment things are back to baseline. I found the loperamide to be of some value.
Thanks for the advice. I began taking loperamide yesterday.
I had fiducial markers and barrigel spacer placed before beginning EBRT radiation.
How common is it for people to get a SpaceOAR spacer before IMRT?
My urologist said Spare OAR and Barrigel placements are quite commonly used.
It appears to vary with the practice setting and the practitioner. My hometown radiologist (who delivered the IMRT) was rather noncommittal regarding a spacer. The radiation oncologists involved with my brachytherapy procedure were proponents of spacer use. There's yet another, newer spacer on the market called Bioprotect. That's the one that I had implanted concurrent with the brachytherapy.
It’s possible the amount of radiation they are giving you is too much for your body. I know more than one person that had to have the amount of radiation reduced, and sessions increased in order to reduce the side effects.
Soft stool and increased bowel movements showed up halfway through radiation. The first week post tx everything ran through me with sudden urgency. Self-treating with Immodium and it is working.
