My uncle diagnosed with lower 1/3rd esophagus cancer 3 months ago
My uncle has completed 25 fractions of radiation now he is getting fever every 8 hours I’m worried if it’s just side effects?

I'll assume he's been doing chemo and radiation concurrently... yes? Although it is common to feel sick, nauseous, vomit some, diarrhea, etc, during treatments... still use good judgment when tending to him. If need be, straight to the ER! Call oncologist and make them aware. How high is his temperature? Under 102... and using Tylenol etc, he might be just fine... staying hydrated. But should not last long... especially if he is done with treatments for now... and making his way to his next scan and then esophagectomy.
Stay in touch! Is he presenting with any other specific pain? How is his weight?

Thanks for your response My uncle is 62 year old and will just finish 28 fractions of radiation today and he was stopped with chemo after 2 cycles because of weakness and low platelets count as advised by oncologist and to first finish with 31 fractions of radiation.about fever temperature it will be around 99 to 100.8….it starts at night times with knee pain in legs and light shivering it’s Been from past 8days after fever tab is given as advised by oncologist temperature becomes normal with in an hour…two days back he had a CT scan the oncologist reviews that tumour is reduced and has good reaction for radiation therapy….his weight in December was 68 kg and now he is 62.5kg…..How about esophagectomy??? Will there be a robotics approach !!!! How much does it cost for surgery in Mayo clinic minesota rochestar we are from India planning for esophagectomy surgery if advised looking to plan at mayo clinic
Oh my... traveling from India. He needs to be in good shape first... get his blood work in order. I've talked to a few in India over the years... do you not feel comfortable with your thoracic surgeons there? But you can't go wrong with Mayo... at any of their 3 major locations, Minnesota, Florida, and Arizona. Have you made contact electronically and had his records sent... and talked price? I'm used to insurance handling ours... so I'm not quite sure what price could be negotiated because so many players are involved (hospital, procedures, surgeon, anesthesia, operating room, etc). But it wouldn't surprise me if the cost was $100,000... give or take.
