Stiffness at 4 months after tkr

Posted by cyndi2013 @cyndi2013, Feb 18, 2025

I am almost 4 months post op TKR and have a lot of stiffness in knee. I do my stretches, exercises and walk everyday. I am so ready to move past this phase of stiffness. When does most of the stiffness get better?

You sound like you’re do amazing.
Tightness is a thing and most annoying. I’m 9 m out now and wake up very tight, especially if I walked a lot the day before. Siting too long makes it very hard to get up.
Stretching, upright bicycle and I do use ibuprofen and sometimes extra strength Tylenol.
135 is amazing. I truly did not know the numbers or even to ask about how far before my surgery.

Thank you for your positive reply! I guess I’m not very patient. Appreciate your taking time to give me some feedback.
Godspeed!! They say 12 months will make a big difference.

I really loved how a thick vitamin E oil felt as well over my knee for that tightness feeling.
Best wishes.

Hello I am 4 months after tkr and 72 yo. I was doing fine. With no real problems. I excercised and two days later had bad stomach pains. (Virus going around) Suddenly I have severe swelling, pain and trouble walking! Taking nsaids plus praying. Hard to contact the clinic. Anyone else have experience with this issue? Thank you for your help

I start with a new female PT next week and they offer aqua therapy which my doctor feels will help my rehab. Still stiffness every day and I can feel the scar tissue when I move my knee to bend or lifting. I've tapered myself to just Tylenol Arthritis or extra strength (mostly) with ibuprofen sometimes at night for swelling. My orthopedic doctor prescribed me 10mg of Pregnesone at my appointment last week to help prevent further production of scar tissue. He said some recent studies have shown some positive results for also breaking up existing scar tissue. I walk over a mile every day (sometimes more) and do steps as well as my home exercises. I try to stay positive and not let my fears of "what if" affect my morale. My doctor has told me that," not everyone recovers at the same pace and some just need more time". I'll be 4 months after surgery on March 20th. I'm trying to take it one day at a time! My thoughts and prayers for everyone who's facing these challenges every day! Sending healing hugs!💖🫂🙏

I’m 9 weeks out. Some days knee feels looser, but some days it is really tight, even though I’m walking and doing my lifts etc. Skin still feels burning a lot. I’m walking 3/4 of a mile daily and will increase distance 10% weekly, per my pt instructions. I’m released from Dr and PT. I just get so discouraged ….. I’m to use a 8-10 lb wt on my ankle when I do my leg and knee lifts. Waiting on that delivery. Some days my knee really hurts. But, they say give it at least 6 months. Just know you’re not alone. My husband got septic 5 years ago due to staph in his knee and hip replacements he’d had years before. He had 7 surgeries. That scares me my knee will get infected!

I just got back on my recumbent about 3 weeks ago. Started out doing 2 minutes in the morning and evening. I am now up to 4 minutes every morning and evening. This seems to help loosening my knee but it gets very stiff in the mornings. Praying 🙏 through this.

Hello, I'm about 6 weeks out of tkr. I've also had both hips replaced. Pardon me for asking, but I've never heard of anybody getting sepsis so long after surgery. How did he end up getting stapf in his joint replacement s? I'm also asking because I am supposed to have my other knee replaced as well.
I've been praying for anybody who's had any kind of joint replacement. This recovery is quite a trial!!! One Day at A Time!

Thanks!!!

At 20 months post knee replacement I still get a stiff knee. It's not uncomfortable any more, but I notice it every time I wake up and every time I stand up after an hour of sitting. Walking daily plus therapy exercises and some gym machine work twice a week doesn't make it any stiffer, but it also doesn't get rid of the stiffness. It's not like a real knee and the body never forgets that. Just keep moving it.
