Did you have a swollen scrotum after prostate surgery?
My husband had a RLP on 2/28/2025 and his scrotum is very swollen. I brought him to the ER last night and they did a cat scan of his pelvic area to see if there was an issue with the lymphatic system/drainage and the doctors there said it looked like normal post operative swelling. In all of the posts I have read, I don't ever see anyone talking about the swelling. I am taking him to the Dr. on Monday to have the catheter removed. Will having the catheter out reduce the swelling? Please advise. Thank you!

I have never heard of this occurring and I’ve heard from over a hundred people who have had surgery. What you describe is not normal, I know after my surgery I had no swelling at all.
Hopefully the doctor on Monday can help with this.
I never had any swelling after my RARP. Is he running a fever?
Two years ago I had a RALP done and my penis and testicles both swelled up a lot and turned severely black and blue in the first week. I had been told to expect this so I didn't panic. But it was not pretty. It all went away fairly quickly in another week or so. And my wife felt worse than I did because she thought it implied pain, but it was only uncomfortable. The swelling was a side effect of blood pooling after the surgery; it was not caused by direct bruising.
Yes, it would have been nice if my urologist had prepared me for possible side effects of having my prostate removed. About 24 hours after coming home from the hospital, my scrotum began to swell. Eventually it more than doubled in size. For a full 24 hours, my scrotum had become so enlarged that I could no longer see the head of my penis. All I could see was the catheter tube poking out of the enlarged scrotum. I was sure something was very wrong, but when I called the urologist office, I was assured this was not unusual; no need to go to the ER. And the scrotum did slowly return to normal size about a week after the operation. Definitely a scary side effect, but not serious. Hope this helps.
Yes my husband had swelling after surgery and after Friday radiation. I iced him right away. So if during treatments it happens again definitely have him sit on wrapvice pack. Ice helping with inflammation plus cools after radiation. Best of luck. My husband did great. I on the other hand have had all symptoms he was supposed to have with lupron, although they said it was safe even with my MS. Newlyweds to boot. Hopefully things get better now that all treatments are done. Otherwise I just dont know what to do.
His scrotum is no longer black and blue but it is still swollen…did you have your lymph nodes removed? Did having your catheter remove help with the swelling??? Or did it not make much of a difference?
Yes…this exactly what has happened…how long after catheter removal did your scrotum return to normal?? Also, when I was at work last week my husband may have overdone it with the walking…do you think this did not help the situation??
No fever at all…
I had the catheter for about 10 days, so by the time it was removed the scrotum for close to normal size. The day after it was removed, I was determined to start walking again. I did 15 minutes the first day (wet my walking shorts without even realizing it), and every day walked a little longer and a little farther. I was in excellent physical shape before the operation at age 62, but it took about 30 days of walking before I really felt I was close to normal again.
My thought was perhaps he contracted an infection. No fever probably dispells that but regardless, speaking with his doctor is the best course of action.
