Steroid treatment for brain edema to be replaced by Boswellia.
Have brain edema after SRS(Cyberknife) treatment for meningioma. The neurologist prescribed steroids to defeat the edema. The now larger edema seems to be stabilized but not inclined to reduce in size. The neurologist now wants to prescribe a herbal extract called Boswellia to supplement the steroids initially then eventually to replace the steroids.
Has anyone gone through thi treatment? What are your results/opinions.
Also, because it is a herbal extract not covered by the FDA, how did you find a a trustworthy source. Our neurologist would not provide a source recommendation.

I too have the same thing. Gamma knife radiation 6 months ago. Just started having symptoms of enlarged enhancement. Steriods started but added Boswellia. I am all about natural solutions so I will keep you posted. Steriods start to phase down in two days and Boswellia goes up!

What is the brand name that you purchased from Amazon.
I am using tnvitamins 1200mg caps ( 2caps 2X/day).
The brand name is Double Wood. It is 65% extract. It says 1200 mg per day.
I've never heard of an herbal supplement to help reduce brain swelling, I hope it helps you. Please let me know if it helps as I'm getting brain swelling since I had brain radiation laser treatments, cyberknife surgery in August. I've been getting excruciating headaches everyday, they've gotten so bad I can barely get out of bed to do anything & my headache medicines and pain medication isn't stopping the headaches but that's probably because I keep getting swelling. I just finished a round of anti-inflammatory steroids which helped for a few days but now it's swollen again and I'm getting excruciating headaches everyday. I just got off the phone with my primary care doctor she's calling in a prescription for Prednisone, I pray it works.
Try the supplement- it can't hurt if you are suffering.

I was diagnosed with glioblastoma in September, operated on Sept. 27, received radiation and chemo for 6 weeks till Dec. 24. I then received gamma knife radiation treatment on Feb. 11 and have now started with high dose chemotherapy, 5-days a week for the next 6 months. Not sure what will be next after the chemotherapy.
How is the steroids and Boswellia therapy working for you?
Steroids not working (Dexamethasone 2mg tabs @ 8mg/day). Concurrently taking Boswellia for the past week with a plan to taper the steroid dosage slpwly and continue the Boswellia dosage.
I have been on steriods Dex 2mg-jusy morning along with 1200mg Boswellia morning and night. Steriods make me feel crappy so I may just continue with Boswellia alone. There is nothing you can really do for swelling except wait for it to go down. As it is not getting any worse- I am thiking about cutting the steriods I would rather feel good than crappy!!
