Lower right abdominal pain

Posted by barkbarkbark1 @barkbarkbark1, Mar 3, 2022

I started having a pretty dull pain in my lower right abdomen it stays for a few seconds and goes away and comes back after a bit. It’s very tolerable I’m just wondering what it is. I had a ultra sound at the gynecologist yesterday and they said everything looked normal. I do have acid reflux and I’ve been burping and a little gassy for the past few days which i'm not sure that has anything to do with it I just want to mention everything just in case. I don’t think it’s appendicitis since I don't have any other symptoms like vomiting, nausea, poor appetite, etc. I tried pressing down on the area as well I don’t really notice any rebound pain.

While you are searching for answers treat the pain as though it is from the ileocecal valve, the junction between the two intestinal tracts. I was going thru a bout of pain in the lower right abdominal area while also having a lot of gas. I tried the low FODMAP diet for a few weeks and ileocecal valve release massage (info on both are available with a quick internet search). The pain is mostly gone, resurfaces when I don't eat properly. Can't hurt, may help, and meantime you can continue with medical visits/testing. Good luck!

I get similar pain in my lower right side after certain activities that involve my abdominal muscles. I went through all the tests that you have.....trans-vaginal ultrasound, colonoscopy, blood work for appendicitis, etc. Nothing showed up so my pcp sent me to a surgeon to see if he could find a hernia. He ordered a CT scan and it came back with the diagnosis of right-sided iliopsoas bursitis. This was back in 2019 and although I am still living with the pain when I do more work/exercise that involves my abdominal muscles, I can deal with the side effects by taking a pain reliever and resting with a heating pad on the area of the pain. There are other solutions to the pain that were offered to me, but, I am in my 70's and decided to opt out of them. Have you been examined for an inguinal hernia? Have you had a CT scan? Perhaps you might ask for that. I hope you find a diagnosis and then an answer for the relief of your pain. Don't give up looking.

I posted some of this information before but after another night of this there were things I had left out. I feel your pain as I too have been going thru this for over 3 years now. I have several ct scans with contrast, x rays, ultra sound with contrast, blood test, colonoscopy and told nothing showed up that should be causing this horrible pain. Since Nov 2022 I have had 3 ct scans and this is what the results were. Mild pericolonic stranding about the distal ascending colon near the hepatic flexure, similar in appearance to the exam on 12/26/2023 and 11/23/2022.Small umbilical hernia. I had colitis 3 times last year and given antibiotics which did not stop the pain. Right-sided diverticulitis is also a consideration. Normal appendix Something has to be causing the pain I take Gabapentin 1200mg day with heating pad and lidocaine patch gives very little relief. I don't know of anything that triggers it

Update: Before when I wrote about this I wasn't having any pain when pressing on the lower right quadrant. Today I hadn’t felt any of the dull pain i’d been feeling. I decided to press on the area and there is some pain not after I press it just while i’m pressing it.

Hello, so I have been experiencing a lower right abdominal pain for months now. I am a 18y/o F and I have been to the ER the first day I felt the pain thinking it could be an appendicitis but they said they found nothing , I then followed up with my general practitioner who couldn't figure it out and then sent me to my OB who checked and found nothing abnormal and then sent me to a gastroenterologist who also did not seem to have any answers for me. I have been experiencing this pain for over 6 months now and no one seems to have an answer for me so I wanted to reach out on here and maybe someone has an idea. The pain feels like a runners cramp and is exaggerated when I walk for a long period of time and it gets progressively worse when any more rigor is added to the routine such as working out or jogging. It is rather low in my side and tends to only stay on the right side. Thank you!!

Hey there. Found this 3 year old thread as I’m experiencing the *exact* same thing. 34 y/o M. You’ve described it exactly. I’m about 7 months in. CT scan, colonoscopy, diet changes, nothing seems to be changing it. Constant pressure in the lower right side. Sometimes painful, sometimes just annoying. Not sure if you’ll ever see this, but really wondering if you ever figured it out..?

Hi, @brennan329 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm so sorry nothing is changing the pain or just annoyance on your lower right side.

Guessing you are seeing a gastroenterologist, brennan329? Have they found anything notable on your colonoscopy or your CT scan?

My guess would be inguinal hernia. It could be pushing against the wall of the abdomen.
