Has collagen been shown to improve osteopenia symptoms?

Posted by jujujudy @jujujudy, Feb 15 5:30pm

I’ve been taking collagen for well over a year to improve my osteopenia symptoms and have found it to be extremely helpful. I discontinued taking calcium because I also had an aortic valve replacement in 2013 and read that taking calcium has a negative effect on the heart. Has anyone else found collagen to be beneficial?

Does your dose of "collagen peptide" come in
liquid form?? K

Fortibone is bovine sourced so not likely any marine collagen would contain it as that is fish sourced.

I don't know.
Amazon could probably give you the answer. I looked it up and was surprised how many types of collagen they have

I really wonder if it makes a difference, bovine vs marine sources. I once asked Dr McCormick and he said he didn't know the answer but "suspected" bovine to be better. I don't think anyone really knows the answer to that question. My preference is marine but I sometimes alternate.

Hmm, I'd be a bit skeptical of that info since it is from the product website. No scientific studies are sited. I don't think there is a definitive answer right now. If there were, I'm sure Dr McCormick would know. The main study that people hang their hats on was provided by the manufacturers of Fortibone. I can't imagine Fortibone is any different than other bovine sourced collagen except that it has great marketing and a great name that conjures "strong bones". We really do need more unbiased studies on this.
