Right lower quadrant pain x3 months
This started while I was doing jiu jitsu with or so I think. Pain is near or at my bottom rid and seems to be focal to about a four inch in diameter area. I had an X-ray and ultrasound both found nothing except scoliosis/and prior spine injuries. I had a recent complete Gi work up about a year ago and all is good. All basic labs are good.
The pain comes and goes. However I notice most when sitting or lying down. I'm pretty active and health conscious ,it doesn't slow me down but it has gotten worse and is getting to be unsettling.
I thought it might be a hernia but the ultrasound ruled that out. Oblique strain? Spinal nerve pain ? Anyone ?

Did you get MRis of your cervical and lumbar spine by an orthopedic spine specialist? Have you been to a neurologist for EMG/nerve conduction studies and bloodwork?
When you say lower quadrant pain, do you mean lower body, lower back, torso, abdomen, legs?
I've had a "mystery pain" on my left side (front) for about a year now. Ultrasound and MRI show nothing. One thing they checked me for was "ACNES", which is: Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome, a condition characterized by chronic pain in the abdominal wall. It occurs when the anterior cutaneous nerves, which supply sensation to the abdomen, become entrapped or compressed. This was negative for me. Then they thought it could be "Mesentery Panniculitis", which is inflammation in the fatty tissue of the abdomen. This was ruled out because a lab test for inflammation in the body was negative. Just a few ideas, probably not the problem you have, but you never know. Good luck!

1 ReactionI dont know what it is, but I've had it for going on 40 years. Sometimes it disappears for months at a time. Sometimes its really bad. Sometimes I just about notice it. Over the years, done all the tests. No one has ever come up with an answer. For me, I think it is all related to my back and spine. Amoung other things I have compression on the nerves which can cause pain and discomfort to some many other areas of your body. I dont think doctors are interested in finding the root of the problem anymore, because once they find a test is normal they basically give up. This does not apply to Mayo doctors.
My daughter has lower right quadrant pain too and scoliosis. Kind of wondering now if there is a correlation??
Is that the same as May Thurner Syndrome?
No, it isn't affecting my legs, just abdomen on the side.
Has an appendicitis been ruled out? Mine took 2 years to finally show up before surgery. They now treat them with antibiotics before considering surgery.
I wonder if anyone has similar symptoms as me. I have been having RLQ abdominal pain that is similar to signs of appendicitis (positive obturator sign), which always brought me to the ER. I had this pain once in 2019 and twice in 2024. In the ER, my labs showed elevated CRP but negative imaging. I also have pretty bad nausea occasionally since last year. This year, I started to get stabbing RUQ pain that occurs only when I walk. I have been seeing a gastroenterologist since last year. My colonoscopy, endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, and labs all came back normal. Idk if I should do a capsule endoscopy or a MR enterography. My gastroenterologist said the last part of my small intestine was normal in my colonoscopy, so there's probably nothing wrong. I'm sick of being invalidated.

Have you had an abdominal ultrasound and MRI? Do you have painful gas and are you constipated?
Have you ever had your gallbladder checked with a HYDA scan to check function (ejection fraction of bile)? This is called biliary dyskinesia and can cause abdominal pain. My gallbladder ejects only 7% bile when it should be a minimum of 35%-40% after a high fat meal).
Do you take a probiotic or have good fiber, fruits and vegetables in your diet? Do you drink at least 50% of your weight in ounces of water each day (including electrolytes to help your body retain the water in your body)? Do you drink coffee or alcohol? This can cause dehydration.
High CRP shows inflammation. Have you seen an immunologist for allergy testing? Have you seen a rheumatologist to check for autoimmune testing?
