Any recommendations for organic sprays? Any good website with DIY ideas on organic sprays?
I have 4 decades of experience of gardening in the shade (hostas, ferns) because we had dozens of trees. We moved and now have a sunny 1/2 acre lot.

I also made a 30 foot compost berm/mound for veggies. Would that be good place for sweet potatoes and other root veggies and squash? Have you grown garlic? I read to keep garlic away from other plants because it adds sulfur to the soil.
Do you have any problems with deer / raccoons? We have a deer trail through our yard.

Deer = fence 6' or higher with fishing line around the perimeter of the berm. Look for "deer exclusion fencing ideas."
Berms are great places to raise underground crops.

Look for articles from the UW or UMn extension service on gardening in small spaces, and start small, so it's manageable. Beans, kale, lettuces, squash and root crops are naturally more pest resistant, so few/no chemicals are required. Cabbage heads can be protected from pests by a nylon stocking.
