Is Brachytherapy, Cyberknife, or Proton Beam available in Jacksonville
I am interested in pursuing either Brachytherapy, Cyberknife, or Proton Beam for my PC (intermediate/favorable). I can't determine if any or all three are available at the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic. If anyone can confirm or deny if the treatments are available in Jacksonville that would be great. Also any insights or experiences with any of the treatments mentioned would be appreciated.
Thanks

I can answer one of your questions. Proton Beam Radiation is not available at Mayo Jacksonville. They only have photon. Buidling a new cancer center that will have proton radiation and will open in 2026.
I am a patient at Mayo Jacksonville since 2005.
I do not have experience or knowledge about Brachytherapy or Cyberknife so cannot comment if avaiable at May Jacksonville.
My diagnosis of prostate cancer was done at Mayo Jacksonville. They did the MRI/contrast, Biopsies with MRI/Fusion, bone scan, Decipher test. I got a second opinion at UFHPTI who confirmed diagnosis but wanted another test done called PSMA. Since Jacksonville did not offer proton radiation just photon I had my radiation treatments done at UFHPTI.
Check out UF Health Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville. This is where I had my Proton treatments in early 2023. It's a wonderful facility and staff! I also considered Mayo, but they will not have Proton for a few more years.

I believe that Cyberknife is a Proton machine, but since I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I could be wrong. Sorry for my attempt at humor.
Not an expert either, but I believe CyberKnife is an image-guided EBRT machine that uses traditional photon radiation (True Beam is another similar type of equipment).
Proton beam therapy is not yet available at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Mayo Clinic's proton beam facility at the Jacksonville campus is currently under construction. The Jacksonville, Florida proton beam facility will open in 2026.
If proton beam therapy is recommended by Mayo experts, then the team can work with University of Florida department or Florida patients can choose to have proton beam therapy at the Rochester, Minnesota campus.
Brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery (cyberknife) is available at all 3 Mayo Clinic locations I believe. I would call Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville to confirm 904-953-0853
Great information and right on for Mayo Jacksonville.
I did this very thing with proton radiation and photon radiation option and went with proton at UFHPTI. All my diagnostic test (with execption of PSMA) were done at Mayo Jacksonville and then a second opinion wasa done by supply my medical records to UFHPTI.
I am anxiously awaiting the new cancer center opening in Jacksonville Mayo. I suspect it is going to have the most advanced treatments available to Mayo patients.

@michael219 gave you some excellent information. Although Mayo Jacksonville does not have proton radiation there is an instituion called UFHPT in Jacksonville located on same grounds as Shands Hospital. It has been doing proton radiation since 2006.
They have 5 gantries and just went through upgrades on all 5 gantries. It is an excllent facility with very experienced and caring doctors and technicians just like Mayo Jacksonville. The doctors just like Mayo are salaried employees.
Regardless of choosing Mayo Jacksonville with photon radiation or UFHPTI proton I suggest you contact UFHPTI and asked for their information packet. It contains a ton of information on their program, research on proton and photon radiation, two books (one is the Walsh book every one recommends), the treatments, side affects, etc. It would be an excellent source of information on prostate cancer.
I would have had my proton radiation done at Mayo as that is were I am a patient since 2006. It would have allowed my to have all my tests and treatments done there. UFHPT is about 45 minute drive for me versus a 25 minute drive. But I could not have been treated any more professionally and caring and UFHPTI is a great institution just like Mayo Jacksonville is.
