Risedronate Sodium 150mg

Hello, has anyone tried Risedronate Sodium 150mg once a month for Osteoporosis?
I've been on it a couple months. So far no side effects, but hoping this helps improve my bones.

Seems all meds went up this year?

What does stage FRANK mean?

Good question. This is what my dexa report read "Frank". Extremely high rise for fracture. After I did 10 months of Evenity.

@sbcher,
Hi, I've been taking monthly Risedronate since last November after completing a year of Evenity. I'm having no side effects and being very careful about following the guidelines.
I'm also getting my CTX bone marker done monthly and unfortunately Risedronate is not keeping my CTX score down. Alarmed at my CTX going up, I took it twice one month and my score dropped down into the range where I think it should be. Then I went back to monthly and my CTX more than doubled. I'm currently researching old studies on Risedronate and thinking of trying to just do it twice monthly. I'm only planning on doing a year of Risedronate and then doing another round of Evenity.

Why only a year of monthly Risedronate?

@mmwagner46, My intention is to take Risedronate for a year between two rounds of Evenity. I had great success with round 1 of Evenity and now I'm doing the Risedronate. The hope is to keep my Evenity gains, maybe even get some modest gain on Risedronate and then get more significant gains with another round of Evenity. There is research showing that a year off of Evenity is enough for it to be effective again. I'm not at all sure I would choose Risedronate if I wasn't intending to do another round of Evenity

Did you stop Evenity after 10 months and, if so, why? Also, what were. your DEXA scores before and after Evenity? If you mentioned this earlier, I missed it. Thanks.

why wouldn't you choose to take just Risedronate and not Evenity? Serious question because my dr. put me only on Risedronate and I'm now worried.

@mmwagner46 I have no idea what your situation is or what your DXA scores are? The reason I took Evenity is I wanted to take the best med we have at this point to improve my bone density. My worst score in my lumbar spine was -4.1 so I had lost a lot of bone density. I hadn't fractured but when you get to the -4s you are at a high risk of fracture. Evenity gives the largest increases in bone density with I think the fewest side effects of any of the osteoporosis meds. IMO for most people Evenity is the best bone building med available.

Risedronate is one of the weaker bisphosphonates. It is likely safer than Alendronate and Reclast and not as strong in building bone and won't give quite as much increase in bone density. Also, it's protecting qualities against fractures don't last as long after you stop it. Those qualities are good for my plan. One year of Risedronate between two rounds of Evenity. My hope is that Risedronate will have less suppressive effect on my bones response to Evenity when I do Evenity round two.

Not knowing what your situation is I do not have any opinion on your use of Risedronate. Besides my opinion is just that of a non medical person trying to understand this osteoporosis business as best he can. Did your doctor explain their reasoning and or give you other options?

Yes I stopped Evenity after 10 months because of the cost and the outcome on my dexa test.

My scores last year were 33% T-score, left radius were 4.3 which puts me at a range of Frank Osteoporosis.
Previous score was 2.4 12-2021. Big change.

Hope you have better luck with Evenity!

Was the -4.3 score before or after Evenity? Did you have any improvement after Evenity? I read it's more effective to improve the spine and not help much with other areas. My spine is -4. I have no fractures but am afraid of Evenity side effects. How was your experience while on it? Thanks.

After Evenity my T score was 4.3. I didn't have any side effects, but everyone is different.

My first DEXA score was taken 6 months ago so I have no way to compare. Have you noticed any hair fallout? I have but not sure if it's from Risedronate.
