Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Grade 3, micropapillary subtype

IDC Grade 3, micropapillary subtype, KI67 = 22. ER+ (100%), PR+ (14%), HER2- (low HER2).

Oncologist is awaiting Oncotype test results.

Bilateral mastectomy done almost three weeks ago.

I go in next week to learn about the treatment recommendations. At first, I was hoping to not have to do chemo, but that was before we had all this information. Now, I almost want to do chemo because it seems this is at risk of high recurrence and aggressive.

Anyone else out there have same grade and similar KI67? What treatments did you go through? Does the oncologist decide, or does the patient have a choice? I am curious about this next stage.

Given family history, my concern is more about best chance of it not recurring and future detection. I don’t want to show up one day and be told I “light up like a Christmas tree” because the cancer metastasized before we caught it. This happened to both my parents, and I haven’t forgotten that phrase used by a doctor and how that impacted us.

Appreciate all experience and insights.

Thank you.

Hi! @amk0402 . My Ki-67 was 30%, ER and PR were above 90%, and HER2 was negative. My Oncotype score was 20.

Based on the Oncotype result, my oncologist and I decided against chemotherapy. The test placed me in the mid-risk category, with a 6% probability of recurrence—possibly slightly higher since I’m 44, and younger age can be associated with more aggressive cancer. However, the benefit of chemotherapy was only 1.6%, similar to that of hormonal therapy.

Since I was not in menopause, they induced it using goserelin (one injection every 28 days), and I also take letrozole (one pill daily). I’ve been on this treatment for six months now. I’m grateful to have avoided chemotherapy and am focusing on taking care of both my mind and body.

Thank you, @angiemal. It is comforting to hear how other people in similar situations arrived at their decisions with other doctors.

God bless.

@amk0402, I recommend using the group search using the terms you're looking for. For example:

I can imagine that your family history will play a role in your decision making. What treatment plan was recommended for you?
