Silent reflux and famotidine

Posted by rop @rop, Feb 14 7:56pm

After having a feeling of a lump in my throat for four months, my ENT doctor just diagnosed me with silent reflux. She suggested I take famotidine. I tried it for two nights and both nights. I got very bad heart palpitations. needless to say, I don’t want to take it again. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions for a different med or natural product that could help.
Thank you.

Please be aware that just adding to the pillow or raising just the upper portion of the body is not sufficient. The whole body needs to be inclined. I use wooden blocks under the head-end of the bed and in our camping trailer I have added a sheet of plywood under the mattress with foam spacers and pool noodles (increasing in size) from the middle to the head-end. When we travel and overnight in a home or hotel, we always carry wooden blocks with us. Raising the head-end of a heavy hotel bed can be a chore, but my health is worth the effort.

Also don’t lay on your right side as it makes reflux worse.

How did you raise the head of your bed??

I bought a set of heavy duty 3" stackable bed risers online. I put 2 each (6" rise) under the legs at the head of the bed. To install them I wrestled the mattress off the bed then tipped off the box springs. I put the risers under the legs of the bed frame at the head of the bed, then put it all back together. You might need help with the mattress, it's the hardest part. With a helper you could tip the mattress off one side & the box springs (usually much lighter) off the other, then install the risers.

I don't understand why people think a "natural" product would not have side effects. You just don't know what they are. Surprise!
