what type of spinal cord stimulator and location are you referring to? I only have heard of much more complicated procedure.

The trial is done first. A trial lead is placed in the intrathecal space around T7 or T8. A temporary battery is yard on your back. Keep it on for about five days. Getting about 50% pain relief is considered successful. Then you consider having the permanent implant.
