Thank you for bringing this topic up. I have been referred to a psychologist and it's because I asked my primary doctor. They don't specialize, but I was told they often deal with it. If you find that there is a speciality, please let us know so I can do further research. It engulfs your life because your pain is 24/7. I know I am no longer the person I used to be. ❤️
My rheumatologist asked me to read a book about childhood and other trauma causing pain when you do not remember it but a psychologist trained in these skills can help a person. I would love to try that.
My chronic pain has has definitely impacted my life. I was an extremely active person a year ago! I first broke my back and had a kyphoplasty! I never recovered from the procedure! Then my orthopedic dr recommended surgery on my back this past September and I have been in pain since the surgery! Going to Nashville to see a dr that only specializes in spinal cord stimulators!
My oldest Son had a spinal cord stimulator put in approximately eight or nine years ago and has had nothing but problems with it. He did develop a pretty serious infection from it and they took it as he could not walk, he is currently in a nursing home rehabilitation center trying to get strength back.

I don't think the old Frances exists. I am chronic pain Frances. I haven't found anyone yet. May I ask what your affliction is? I am hoping to get a new type of surgery, to help. There is no cure. Do you stay home 24/7? Whatever you have, I am so sorry.

I had a SCS in 2000. It took eleven months to find a doctor that would remove it. The trial was amazing. The permanent was not. I should have done more research. ❤️

I have heard of that and I believe anything that can help should be given a try. I know how I got what I have and thankfully I had no trauma as a child. Mine is from having the shingles. Pain has caused me trauma. ❤️

Since all pain signals occur in the brain, if you calm those signals, it lowers the pain. Even a little help adds up to a better day. Some techniques are daily journaling, progressive muscle relaxation, EFT tapping, Learning how to use deep breathing for pain helped me tremendously. Distraction of any sort, like reading or TV or a bath can lower pain signals, Youtube can explain anything I mentioned here. A video titled 'Relax by Dr Chris Dula' was recommended by one pain psychologist. Another video 'EFT Tapping for pain by Nick Ortner' helped me so much. Visit You tube for free!!

I see a counsellor, she is not trained in chronic pain, but is very supportive and understanding, I have been seeing her for two years.
I also, use breathing techniques, visulastion, meditation, Qi Gong, Yin Yoga, relaxation music, essential oils and massage to help reduce my neurophatic pain and other symptoms.
I visit a Chinese doctor who does cupping, massage and accupressure and that is the only time I sleep well after a treatment and helps reduce my pain.
I will try anything holistically that is safe for me to do and is registered and validated.
I live in the UK
Youtube is a great free resource to find support, that is where I follow the Qi Gong and Ying Yoga video's
