I feel as though the lumbar fusion and the months (almost a year) afterwards were great. Pain was reduced significantly. My comfort level with what I felt I could do got better. I don’t have an “AHA” moment when I felt things started to change for the worse. No falls. No traumas. It just seemed like there was a turning point. Not a plateau, as I would have been ok with that, but rather certain and steady regression. On a medication side note - I was diagnosed as an adult with ADHD. I started taking Adderall in 2017, prior to many of the compounding DDD issues. I NEVER forget to take it. A few months ago, I did forget to take it in the morning. By late afternoon, the nerve pain was at least 2x, maybe even 3x worse, and I have a pretty decent pain tolerance. After asking several neuros about this, one finally discovered a study that confirms that adderall/amphetimines can have a significant affect in lowering nerve pain. So I wonder how long my Adderall has been possibly been masking the changes over the past few months.
However, I am extremely grateful for now being on Adderall not only for its intended use, but the utterly unbelievable help it’s given me with my nerve pain. It’s truly difficult to quantify the reduction in nerve pain that Adderall has given me.
