Silent reflux and famotidine

Posted by rop @rop, Feb 14 7:56pm

After having a feeling of a lump in my throat for four months, my ENT doctor just diagnosed me with silent reflux. She suggested I take famotidine. I tried it for two nights and both nights. I got very bad heart palpitations. needless to say, I don’t want to take it again. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions for a different med or natural product that could help.
Thank you.

I also had silent reflux. Now I take famotidine 20mg 30 min before breakfast & 30 min before dinner daily, no palpitations & works well. I wonder if taking it at start of day before meal would improve palpitations? I also have the head of my bed raised 6 inches to help keep stomach acid down where it belongs.

I was taking it at night. My gastro dr told me to stay away from it once he heard it gave me heart palpitations so now I’m just on omeprazole.

It didn't give me palpitations. Glad you found an alternative. Good luck!

I realize the palpitations are an individual response. I was fortunate & didn't get them.

We have a rise we bought for our bed when we got a new mattress. It has a remote. You can raise the bottom of your bed, too, if you need to elevate your feet. They are really nice.

Thank you, but I am not about to buy a new mattress, so if anyone knows how to raise a regular, old-fashioned, double-bed mattress, please share!

You can put blocks under front legs of bed to raise 6 inches. If your bed has wood slats you can add additional slats on top of each other to raise head of bed 6 inches. There are also triangular wedge foam pillows sold online that will raise your upper body. Also don’t sleep on your right side.

You can put wood blocks under the front bedposts to raise the head of your bed. You can add height also if your bed has slats under box springs…you can raise top of mattress by raising height of those slats. I bough a foam riser for reflux on line….its like a triangular foam riser.

I bought a pretty inexpensive, small device, it's like a small motor and it allowed me to make my bed into an adjustable bed so that I can raise and lower it to sleep. From the internet: "Memory foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses are generally the best options for use with adjustable bases, as they provide the flexibility and durability needed to perform well with the base's various adjustments. Traditional innerspring mattresses may not be as compatible due to their rigid construction."
