Running on a mini-trampoline

Posted by janism @janism, Feb 17 6:59am

I have osteoporosis, taking Tymlos for about a year at this point. I've been running on a mini-trampoline. Does that count as impact? My balance is excellent, and I'm not jumping, just running, and hoping that will help with both bone maintenance and cardio.

Any knowledge out there? I also do some very simple weight work with 8 lb. weights.

My t-scores are mostly around -3.2.

Thanks!

No, the mini trampoline is not a weight bearing activity—but don’t discount the benefit to your cardio & psychological health that will in turn help you deal with your osteoporosis. Keep up the weights & try to get a whole body work out —that is the key to bone health

Bit the bullet and invested in a relatively inexpensive folding treadmill. I don't need anything fancy--I'm not going to be running 10 mph. Jogged/walked at 3 1/2 mph this morning for 20 minutes and read my book. I can do this! Now it is tucked out of the way against the wall behind some armchairs. I think it will be weights and treadmill on alternate days for 10-20 min. before waking the kid and getting to work.

I think someone asked about Tymlos side effects--I had none. My course of treatment ends this summer, not sure what the doctor will recommend after since a couple of things we tried before Tymlos (just a couple of doses) gave me severe reflux.

Thanks for the advice! Back to lurking, luck to all.
