What's the Recommended Daily Allowance of Fun?

Posted by Scott R L @scottrl, Feb 12 12:50pm

As I've gotten older, I've heard more and more about all these nutritional and even drug recommendations -- take this, eat that, do this, avoid these other things.

It all seems so restrictive.

But I'm not a machine, and neither are you. What about fun? How much fun should we get every day?

If I did all the things I'm supposed to do, and avoided all the things I shouldn't do, that would squeeze out what little fun/enjoyment I still get.

That just wouldn't be worth it to me, to be honest.

What do you say? What's your RDA of fun?

@scottrl This is an excellent topic! Interesting, it happens to be great timing. Before I jumped on here, I had realized this morning that I am falling back into the same habits that really led to my downfall. Letting work and stress tire me down. Also, letting others setting your expectations for you can be an easy trap to fall into.

My RDA is to laugh once, smile once, or learn something new. I do a lot of outdoor activity, I read (member of multiple book clubs), play chess, climb, and hike with a wonderful group of friends. One of my quirky fun activities to accumulate credit card rewards...maximize points earned or cash back (I am a math nerd). Next month, I am taking an introductory flying lesson I bought off Groupon. Just sampling what it would feel like to be at the controls of a plane.

I also watch puppy videos like @kb2014 and also like the idea of building a puzzle like @pml sounds relaxing...an office suite next to mine leaves a puzzle out for staff to put together as a group. I also agree with @covidstinks2023 that dessert is a dish best eaten first. =)

Thanks so much Scott.

I try and find something everyday to laugh about. Laughter is good medicine.

Blessings to you & yours....

Instead of the John I call my bathroom the Jim! That way it sounds better when I say I go to the Jim first thing every morning!
With age comes skills. It's called multitasking. I can laugh, cough, sneeze, and pee at the same time!
I told my grandkids I was reading a book on anti-gravity. They asked if it was any good. I said, "It's impossible to put down!"
My grandson asked me why my knees creak when I walk. I told him it's just my bones applauding me for getting up!!
Have a great day everyone! If I made one of you laugh I'm a happy man!!

Umm RDA, might depend on age,
55-65= 2 a day
65-75= 1 a day
75 + = skip a day.

No fun allowed until age 55? ☹️

Did you retire when you were 55?

Sometimes, if I laugh too hard, I'll pee myself.

But, I try not to take credit for it.
