Positive Evenity results

Posted by neesie0159 @neesie0159, Jul 23, 2024

I had my DEXA scan a week ago after finishing Evenity just over a month ago. With my luck I was expecting little results. Luckily it was good! Lumbar spine went from -4.6 to -3.0 Right femoral neck from -2.9 to -2.2. All the ridiculous copays were worth it to have my spine improve that much. My new PCP (I moved 3 months ago) hadn’t gotten the report as of today, so I downloaded it from my patient portal and emailed it to her. I still have a crappy spine, but not nearly as crappy as it was. Just a tip, be persistent when you need something medical. The place I was originally referred to for the DEXA said they couldn’t get me in until mid August. Multiple calls later, I got an appointment elsewhere within a few days. When I hadn’t heard from my PCP a week after the scan I called them. I don’t know what’s next yet, rheumatologist was pushing Prolia partly because it’s once every 6 months instead of a daily pill, but I had no unmanageable side effects with alendronate and Prolia is an unknown. Thanks for reading!

THANKS!!! Yes, I'm going to be starting Evenity very soon - waiting for the insurance company to move!!! I'm eager to hear what people are taking afterwards as well. Can one take Evenity for another year?

We all know the feelings of starting any bone medicine. When you say that your bone score was very low what is very low? Mine in the spine was -4.6. I took Evenity for 12 months. Now my DEXA is -3.3 and I am taking Prolia to gain more density for 3 injections. Then I will take Reclast to lock in

Hi Kristie2. My spine score started out at -5.0, Left Femoral neck -3.2, Right Femoral neck -3.7. in 2022. I went to an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and she recommended Tymlos, which my insurance refused even after she appealed it, so I went on Reclast. After Reclast, my spine score was -3.6, left neck -3.1 and right neck -3.5. Not knowing about this site and everything that has been discussed and being afraid to take Tymlos or Evenity, I opted for Reclast again. In 2024, my spine went back up to -4.0 but my left neck went down to -3.0 and right neck down to -3.4. After reading this blog I started Evenity 5 months ago and am hoping for more improvements. So far I have not fractured. I am really scared of Prolina after reading the comments on here, so I suppose I will take a third year of Reclast to lock in my gains from Evenity. Hopefully I have good gains. After that I am hoping to take a year off, but it’s so confusing to know what to do. I had no idea that taking these drugs was a lifetime commitment.

Thank you for sharing. I know exactly how you feel and all of us on this site do too. Yes -5 is the lowest I have heard of so far. Reclast doesn’t build bone so that doesn’t surprise me that your bone density went down. Hopefully with the Evenity you should see gains.

Your confusion is understandable - Western medicine and our societal habits haven't a clue how to function in support of our bones. We never walk carrying loads on our heads; all the societies that do NEVER experience osteoporosis; plus, we're not told in our youth what precautionary measures we could take to build our bones to a really great strength when we're young enough to do so. So, we suffer in our older years for all these lacks. Here we are adrift on our n"star!"

I just completed 12 months. No side effects. I'm so curious now to learn how my body responded, but insurance will only pay for a density bone scan every two years. So unfortunately have to wait one year for the next bone scan.

My endocrinologist says I can get another DEXA a year after my previous one, so that would be this June. He said he’s usually able to persuade insurance to cover it as it’s more a diagnostic than routine screening. I hope that works, it’s ridiculous waiting 2 years to find out whether treatment is working or not.

I also finished Evenity and have advanced to Prolia for 3 injections and then reclast . The reason behind going to Prolia is to add more bone density. Reclast adds no bone density just locks in the gains.
The only thing you would have to be aware of since you have mild kidney disease, your doctor should closely monitor your calcium levels while you are on Prolia or reclast. I know I had to up my calcium intake.

I have my second Prolia injection in a couple of weeks, had no major side effects with the first. I was told the same, that it could continue to build my bone. 1 or 2 more after that and then go to Reclast.

The only reason my PCP who diagnosed me at 45 with osteoporosis could think of for me getting it earlier than normal was my anorexia as a teen. Definitely agree with learning to take better care of your bones when young.

My 2nd Prolia injection is also in a few weeks. The only problem I faced was a low calcium level which Prolia is known to do. I have increased my calcium intake and it was fine. They always check your calcium level before they give u the injection and if it is low they won’t let you get it.

I am getting ready to start my first Evenity shot tomorrow. I am 67 and Diabetic. I am terrified of the side effects - heart attack, stroke. (my husband just died from a heart attack) Not sure how to do what deal with it, tried to do as much research as I can. Have to weigh the risks with the benefits I guess. I just had my first density and I am -3.3 and - 2.9 in my hips and -3.1 in my spine. How did you ladies get past this fear? Glad to hear about your successes.

Hello, I felt the same exact way you did regarding the fear. I had never been on any meds up until that point but my bones were horrible and I am only 54 so I felt that I had to do something. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and it’s very understandable how that would make you even more fearful of the possible side effects. I just finished a year on Evenity and I didn’t have any side effects and it did help improve my bones. They went from unbelievably bad to just bad but I’ll take it. As far as getting past the fear, I don’t think I ever quite got past it and I’m already fearing whatever I will be on next. I think that the people who do have the bad side effects are very rare. Can you talk to your doctor about it? I wish you the very best of luck and, most likely, you will be ok with the Evenity and hopefully get some good results.

Hi, I will get my 3rd Evenity shot today. I am 78 and got past the fear when I fractured....4 fractures and awful pain. I had no idea what was going on up until the pain started. I had been very active and never broke a bone. My Dexa scores were not too different from yours and I had resisted even doing a Dexa as I am radiation phobic. I wish my GP had addressed my radiation fears sooner. My younger sister had great success with Evenity. Fractures can be very painful and debilitating, so I traded fears so to speak!
