@colleenyoung thank you for this reminder!! I meant to share my experience.

@delphiniums Hi! I had a spinal fusion surgery on December 11, 2024 at the Phoenix Mayo Clinic Hospital. I live in California so I knew I would need a place to stay before and possibly after surgery and also a place for my caregiver while I was in the hospital.
I first contacted the Help in Healing Home (H&HH) by filling out the online inquiry, but I would recommend calling them instead. They are so friendly and helpful and will answer all your questions. The lady I talked to immediately emailed me the paperwork that I needed to fill out to get on the waiting list. I believe I called them about a month before my surgery.
You do not need a referral from your doctor. They charge $50 per day and a one time cleaning charge of $50. They require you to have your own vehicle or a rental.
I had so many questions about how the common areas work and other things that I wasn’t able to find online and she answered all of them. 😊
The main concern I had with them is that they aren’t able to confirm an available room for you until about 7 to 10 days before you need it. This is because they never make anyone leave until they are ready.
I knew I needed a backup plan, so I made reservations at the Sleep Inn, with the 48 hour cancellation policy in case H&HH didn’t have a room available.
About a week before my surgery, H&HH called me and said they had a room available. I had recently decided to keep my reservation at the Sleep Inn so I “released” my reservation at the H&HH.
I hope this helps!
Sherry

Thank you, Sherry! That information is truly so helpful. I will call them on Monday to get on the list rather than waiting for the referral to go through.

As far as them requiring you to have a rental care/vehicle, I will have to ask about that! I am licensed but don't like driving in strange cities, and my husband won't be allowed to drive due to his heart surgery. We always take an Uber wherever we need while in Phoenix.
