My Dr. is a Yale educated psychiatrist who is a Professor at one of the leading medical schools in the South West. This is the way he runs his practice. He expects his patients to get their prescriptions from their primary care doctors or psychiatric nurse practitioners which is fine with me. By the way, before I considered any newly prescribed meds, I consulted him. There were several meds he advised me to refuse. It doesn’t matter who prescribes your meds. It’s trial and error. I was fine seeing my primary care doctor or psychiatric nurse practitioners for my medications. Maybe due to my age or wrong dosing, none of the meds worked for me.

I have been working with a psychiatric nurse practitioner for 8 months. Thankfully we have a great connection. She is with CM Council in Plymouth Meeting PA. I had been on medication for 35+years. Last year on the highest doses of Paxil and Wellbutrin I had an anxiety attack that made my heart beat erratically. I, myself, knew that my medications were causing me more anxiety than I thought.
With careful weaning I am currently on 40mg of Prozac and 100 of the Wellbutrin. What an amazing transition. I actually laughed out loud one day which surprised me. It’s taken time but worth it. My prescriber likes to remind me of a venn diagram with life and medicine intersecting. When a situation arises I use this to remind me that life is not always dramatic as it seems.
