This is regarding an issue with the gums in the mouth.

Has anyone ever heard of or experienced the gums secreting a salty crystal-like substance from the gums? It has a metallic taste and burns the mouth. I’m desperate to find out information. Dentist and periodontal doctor has no clue. Anyone heard of such. It’s driving my wife crazy.

Maybe you are lacking a particular vitamin. Ask for a complete blood count, including vitamins

She has high folic acid, Doctor took her off B Vitamins. Offered nothing on her condition!

Thanks for your expertise and concern. Jean has an appointment this week with her physician. The substance is coming from her gums. It’s very salty and when it collects on her teeth it becomes very sharp. I mentioned to her about getting the spitting colleges for analysis.

Thank you so much for your info, time and consideration. I’ll pass this on to my wife.

Did your wife find out anything about the crystals in her gums? It was a couple of years ago that you posted something about it.
I’m having the same problem. Sometimes there is a sweet taste and sometimes salty and there is often something that comes out of the gums. I have weight gain”rare” everything, so I know my doctors won’t know.

She is still battling with this problem. We’ve been to Medical School of Dentistry at Medical College of Georgia, twice. They offered no help because they couldn’t “see” anything! No mouth swabs to actually test the gums. We’ve researched but to no avail. Very disappointed the Dentist haven’t researched in their field of knowledge! Thank you for your comments. I hope you find a resolution, if so, let us know.

Try pepsid complete chews for acid reflux. Acid reflux can be silent. Acid reflux can also lead to Barrett’s. Get an esophagus scope. Follow all directions for living with reflux. Do the gums also swell? After my scope I now take Nexium, sucralfate liquid, and baclofen. Takes a good month of treatment to see slight improvement so be patient.

Does she have any other symptoms? Chronic conditions? In my experience, it’s all tied together. I have seen information about calculus on the teeth (there is a video on tik tok (or whatever it’s called) where they are scraping inside the gums and telling people that’s what happens if you don’t get regular cleanings, but there is not information about how it shows up one day and you can taste it, and suck out the gritty substance from the gums. I tried to look into crystallized substances in the gums. This article mentions salivary glands, but maybe it’s still connected and they don’t realize it yet.
To me it’s definitely a strong sweet taste or a distinct salty taste. I do have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (idiopathic) which comes with dozens of symptoms- similar to symptoms people have with the spike protein from covid. Problems with glucose regulation, reactive hypoglycemia, exercise intolerance-like my mitochondria don’t get what they need, digestive issues, severe dehydration. I take vitamin B12 injections every 3-6 weeks (it’s improved with healing “leaky gut”). I also take Neurovite vitamins and have for years with no problems. I take digestive enzymes but did add an extra gluten enzyme for awhile -this could be the culprit, but the problem didn’t improve after stopping the enzyme. A lot of my issues go back to the dehydration and probably lack of ADH hormone. (So just drinking water doesn’t always do the trick, I have to maintain electrolytes and hard to determine how much. I take Vitassium salt capsules at times too.
I hope something I have mentioned helps her someway or another. Perimenopause is often an issue for many women and a lot stems back to managing hormones. There is a long way to go when it comes to supporting women in this area, let alone education. I am sorry she has been dealing with it for so long yet no one has taken a true commitment to determine the science behind this particular problem.
It won’t let me post a link, but search for Crystals and crystalloids in cytopathology: Incidence and importance 2022

Thank you stu2997, for talking time to send this to me. I’m very appreciative and will give to my wife. If the doctors can’t see it, then nothing is there to them. I hope you find an answer to your issues.
