Positive Evenity results

Posted by neesie0159 @neesie0159, Jul 23, 2024

I had my DEXA scan a week ago after finishing Evenity just over a month ago. With my luck I was expecting little results. Luckily it was good! Lumbar spine went from -4.6 to -3.0 Right femoral neck from -2.9 to -2.2. All the ridiculous copays were worth it to have my spine improve that much. My new PCP (I moved 3 months ago) hadn’t gotten the report as of today, so I downloaded it from my patient portal and emailed it to her. I still have a crappy spine, but not nearly as crappy as it was. Just a tip, be persistent when you need something medical. The place I was originally referred to for the DEXA said they couldn’t get me in until mid August. Multiple calls later, I got an appointment elsewhere within a few days. When I hadn’t heard from my PCP a week after the scan I called them. I don’t know what’s next yet, rheumatologist was pushing Prolia partly because it’s once every 6 months instead of a daily pill, but I had no unmanageable side effects with alendronate and Prolia is an unknown. Thanks for reading!

Is anyone taking the Evenity injections, and what is your experience?

Thanks so much for your kind feedback?

Hello @nemorose, I combined your discussion about taking Evenity injections with an existing discussion, titled:

@neesie0159 and @gravity3 shared their positive experiences starting Evenity and may be able to provide an update with how they are currently doing.

@nemorose,* if you are comfortable sharing, is Evenity something you may be taking and are there any concerns with that course of action?

Thanks for good news! I needed that. Just had my second shots yesterday. Both in same arm. Just had swelling in arm last time and this time. Just feel a little off not serious. Hopefully that will be it for side effects. Please let us know what you decide for next meds. Good luck!

I just completed my Evenity shots. I had improvement in all my bones. At first I was apprehensive too. I still need improvement and would do another year of Evenity if I could get my insurance to cover it. The only reaction was redness and swelling at the injection site. I was told to take Claritin an hour prior to my shots and that helped.

I am getting ready to start my first Evenity shot tomorrow. I am 67 and Diabetic. I am terrified of the side effects - heart attack, stroke. (my husband just died from a heart attack) Not sure how to do what deal with it, tried to do as much research as I can. Have to weigh the risks with the benefits I guess. I just had my first density and I am -3.3 and - 2.9 in my hips and -3.1 in my spine. How did you ladies get past this fear? Glad to hear about your successes.

I just finished my last injection. People have had great results. I had no side effects to speak of. I took my injections in my stomach either above my pant line, or below. I found it was less sore that way. Also, she gave me injections very, very slowly. She let the injections warm up to room temperature. I am usually a canary in the mine, but I was perfectly fine!

so much of this drug is explained -
very recent information.

Well this video is disappointing. I’m on my 5th session of shots on Evenity and so far I feel fine. I guess my concern is there haven’t been more studies done since 2016. Is this drug safe for 12 months or should we only be taking it for 6 months? My spine score was extremely low and this drug will hopefully get it where it’s not so severe, but shouldn’t our endocrinologists do a dexa scan at six months to see? I’m just confused like everyone else out here as to the sequence of these drugs. I have elderly women relatives who have only been taking the once per week pill for years as recommended by their doctor and they have not fractured. I know I’ll probably get Reclast after Evenity, but I’m not sure where to go after that. I am 67.

THANKS!!! Yes, I'm going to be starting Evenity very soon - waiting for the insurance company to move!!! I'm eager to hear what people are taking afterwards as well. Can one take Evenity for another year?

I started Evenity last month. I was very anxious (have never taken any meds like this) No side effects I am aware of (maybe arm where I got shot a little sore but not much). I am interested in what other people are going to after Evenity. I do not want Prolia so am considering Reclast. Will be interested to hear what others are moving to after Evenity and what their regimen was.

We all know the feelings of starting any bone medicine. When you say that your bone score was very low what is very low? Mine in the spine was -4.6. I took Evenity for 12 months. Now my DEXA is -3.3 and I am taking Prolia to gain more density for 3 injections. Then I will take Reclast to lock in the gains.
