Positive Evenity results
I had my DEXA scan a week ago after finishing Evenity just over a month ago. With my luck I was expecting little results. Luckily it was good! Lumbar spine went from -4.6 to -3.0 Right femoral neck from -2.9 to -2.2. All the ridiculous copays were worth it to have my spine improve that much. My new PCP (I moved 3 months ago) hadn’t gotten the report as of today, so I downloaded it from my patient portal and emailed it to her. I still have a crappy spine, but not nearly as crappy as it was. Just a tip, be persistent when you need something medical. The place I was originally referred to for the DEXA said they couldn’t get me in until mid August. Multiple calls later, I got an appointment elsewhere within a few days. When I hadn’t heard from my PCP a week after the scan I called them. I don’t know what’s next yet, rheumatologist was pushing Prolia partly because it’s once every 6 months instead of a daily pill, but I had no unmanageable side effects with alendronate and Prolia is an unknown. Thanks for reading!

I just did my second dose last week and so far so good. Fingers crossed.
Good question! I meet with my doctor tomorrow.
Hello, Alexandra. I just finished a year of Evenity and it definitely helped improve my bones. Unfortunately, my bones were horrible to begin with, so they are still bad, but improved. My spine went from -4.1 to -3.1. My femoral neck went from -3.5 to -3.1. My total hip went from -2.8 to -2.5. I was hoping my numbers would have improved more during the year of Evenity but I’m happy they improved at all. I don’t know what medication to take next. I meet with my rheumatologist in a couple of weeks to discuss it. I’m only 54 so I’m worried about long term meds. Other than the first shot, which made me feel a little out of it for a while, I didn’t have any side effects. I felt fine after the next 11 shots. Good luck and I hope things work out well for you.
I also finished Evenity and have advanced to Prolia for 3 injections and then reclast . The reason behind going to Prolia is to add more bone density. Reclast adds no bone density just locks in the gains.
The only thing you would have to be aware of since you have mild kidney disease, your doctor should closely monitor your calcium levels while you are on Prolia or reclast. I know I had to up my calcium intake.
Thank you sooooo much! I really appreciate your feedback - it reinforces my plan to go on Evenity - just waiting for the insurance company to figure out how to okay it - it will happen; it's just the "usual"process. I'm 80, so while I probably should have started bone rebuilding earlier, I'm not looking down such a long life-span "tunnel." In a year, I'll be figuring out what to do AFTER Evenity. Best of luck on your next choices - I look forward to hearing how your journey keeps going along. Warmest regards and all good things... Alex
Thanks so much for the helpful information!
Hi Alex, you are so welcome! I’m very happy to help by sharing my experience because I was so nervous about going on Evenity. I’ve been lucky enough not to have had to take any medication up until this point in my life and I felt very nervous about the whole thing and possible side effects. I also felt lucky to have it covered by insurance. I hope yours comes through soon. I’m glad you’re giving it a try because it did produce results and I hope you won’t have any side effects. When I figure out what to take next I’ll be sure to share it and let you know how it goes. I wish you the very best and I hope you get great results!
I am getting ready to start my first Evenity shot tomorrow. I am 67 and Diabetic. I am terrified of the side effects - heart attack, stroke. (my husband just died from a heart attack) Not sure how to do what deal with it, tried to do as much research as I can. Have to weigh the risks with the benefits I guess. I just had my first density and I am -3.3 and - 2.9 in my hips and -3.1 in my spine. How did you ladies get past this fear? Glad to hear about your successes.
I was afraid of fractures if I did not take medication. I have taken fosomax, forteo, Evenity and now Prolia. I never had any noticable side effects with any. I've made gains. You won't know if you don't try. I am so sorry about your husband and that loss must compound your fear. Good luck with your first injections and keep us posted.
