Is it weird

Posted by maddiemae5 @maddiemae5, 6 days ago

Is it weird that my husband takes his niece to his doctor appointments and not me his wife. He tells me it's because if he has an emergency I don't drive. I do drive but choose not too I do have my license.

@maddiemae5
Does he go anywhere else by himself?
Is his niece wanting to go with him or is she reluctant ?
If he only takes her to his doctor appointments, does she take notes during his visit?

It does sound a bit unusual.

Why can't you and your niece both accompany him?

@maddiemae5 it sounds like your husband is abusive and he and his niece are ganging up on you. Are you in a position to leave him? If not, I don’t know what other solution there is. Perhaps Social Services could help find you a place to live away from him …?

This is just my opinion, but...

These two are up to something. If you have sizeable assets, better start taking legal steps to protect your share. While you're at it, make sure they can't pull some shenanigans to get you declared mentally incompetent.

To Maddie.. you have a good plan to go back to work and stop dwelling on this issue it is definitely a problem the two of them have as they're certainly is nothing wrong with you.. or it could be he doesn't want you to know everything that the doctor says and maybe he wants the niece to write everything down perhaps she's more efficient at doing that so that he has a record of how the office visit went it's really hard to say why this weird situation is happening.. could be like my late husband I didn't take him to anything because he would just yell at the doctors I found it more productive to take my son with me.

Hi @maddiemae5, I wrote to you in another discussion, but wanted to repeat part of my post here so that other members can learn about support for caregivers and family members.

For anyone dealing with challenging family and/or caregiving situations, please know that most cancer centers and hospitals have social workers who offer appointments for the caregiver. You can learn more about oncology social workers from this article:

- How an Oncology Social Worker Can Help https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/cancer-education-center/newsfeed-post/how-an-oncology-social-worker-can-help/

Another option is FindHelp. FindHelp https://www.findhelp.org/ can help find local low cost and no cost resources including things like social work, support services, care and more.
