Diagnosed with ILC . Thoughts on bilateral mastectomy?

I saw 3 surgeons each had different opinions. But the one changed her mind after seeing breast and films. She agreed a double mastectomy. The doctor I am going with was very honest explained everything. In my case a double mastectomy could give me the best outcome with the least treatment.

Hi @joriegrace. You asked for thoughts on bilateral mastectomy. From my own experience, my breast surgeon and oncologist recommended a bilateral mastectomy as the safest, best way to eliminate my particular cancer. (A subtype of triple negative)
I would not need chemo or radiation.

It was a sad decision for me. But I 100% did not want to roll the dice with triple negative cancer.

That was October 23, 2024. I am in the process of reconstruction. Next surgery is reconstruction-related and is scheduled for March 5. (It actually was supposed to be today but they delayed me.)

Let us know if you have any specific questions about recovery, etc. This platform has been so helpful to me and represents a wide range of breast cancer patients.
