So all this happened in a matter of weeks. They started him on the two oral meds right away. When we met with oncologist he said the chemo would take about 6 months but it would pretty much knock him down and he wouldn’t be able to do anything and it would add about 6 months to end of his life. Well to my dad that wasn’t a good trade off because he wouldn’t miss his grandkids games and stuff and live 6 months longer when he will probably be at his worst. Well about a month after this we went to Md Anderson and that Dr said the chemo would not have done that to him. That more than likely he would be tired a couple days and fingers tingle but that was it. But he didn’t want to start chemo then because it had already been a couple months since he started the meds and it was all working really good.
Only issue right now other than not much energy is he started having pain in lower back that radiates to abdomen and shoots down leg. If we could get that stopped it would be wonderful!
In 2023 his psa was 2 and in 2024 it was 154. He has had multiple scans but I think I’m going to ask them to do another one soon. The dr at Md Anderson said pet scans really don’t show prostate cancer so he prefers ct scans. Tell me about the belt or better yet a link maybe. If it will help we will get whatever he needs. Oh and we do know his is all over his bones .
This is after the medical community has said that the CT scan and bone scan should be replaced by the PSMA pet scan.
Sounds like you need a different doctor. You should find a Genito urinary oncologist, they are experts in prostate cancer and will improve your treatment.
@lorenze76, I moved your question about Provenge immunotherapy treatment for advanced prostate cancer to this existing discussion where @sm0534 asked similar questions.

Did your father and his oncologist decide to start Provenge? How is he doing?
I know quite a few people that have taken Provenge. And almost all the cases it Cause no problems. Whether or not it really makes a difference is a matter of a dispute. I sure would get it if my PSA started rising.
Preveng does work best when your PSA is low, so you should consider doing it now before his PSA gets higher.
Have they talked about chemo or maybe Pluvicto? When you have widespread cancer, Pluvicto can make a difference. Unfortunately, it only works real well and 1/3 of the people works OK and 1/3 and not at all and 1/3
Normally, when the cancer is widespread, they use triplet therapy with ADT, A second drug like Xtandi And chemotherapy. Is there some reason they didn’t do chemo with your dad when he first was diagnosed?
