Is there a specific reason for the relief you feel at night? My neck and shoulder tightness persists through half of the night before it starts to calm down.

I don’t have an answer for your question. I think that when laying down the pressure and weight of my head is no longer applying pressure to top of shoulders. Once I get out of bed in the AM it doesn’t take long for the discomfort to start again, in both shoulders and neck.
Sometimes when the pain gets real bad I lay in the bed with a traction collar on neck (light pressure) and that helps.
One of the best therapies that my wife does is to scrape my neck and shoulders, when she gets done my back is bright red. I even use a medical marijuana or cbd salve.
The best thing “For Me” is to stay active, work in the yard, go to the gym 3 days a week to work on neck and shoulder muscles.
