I have had 2 successful surgeries, however, have developed a new rectovaginal fistula within weeks each time. By doing lots of research on my own online I have found that the US is not the place to have fistulas treated. There are much less invasive techniques practiced successfully in other countries. Unfortunately, you have to be able to afford to go there and stay a few months. There is a doctor in turkey that specializes in curing fistulas by treating them from the inside out without cutting and removing things or creating ostomies.
I can't add the link here as I am a new member but if you search fistula free and find the site that has Julie Roger's story on the homepage it is very informative

I did have one with diverticulosis and it was repaired when I had my colostomy Prior to that no one would operate just to fix the fistula itself
