I would suggest getting a different opinion. Reading the research. Its a delicate balance but seems the HRT is the way to go on top of the bone meds. "Risky" is relative, no? having your bones so soft they fracture is "risky," right? Your doctor may not be aware of the new research, which makes HRT not the risk they used to think. And women can restart or start at older ages now.
After researching some of these treatments and reading posts about side effects i did decide to go with HRT and suppliments. Two out of three different doctors tried to discourage HRT even after pointing out scientific evidence. When consulting with insurance rep she revealed that insurance does accept HRT as a viable treatment for osteoporisis. The Dr of Rheumatalogy said it was not a viable option! Wondering why the controversy. Insurance rep candidly insinuated it was about the money. Oh how i cringe at that thought. Maybe it is controversial. Maybe works for some but not all. Maybe about the money. My levels of PFAS are very high. These are chemicals in our water from processing carpet, living near army bases that use fire fighting foam. To add a mixture of Prolia or any other chemical is not for me. We already have so many toxins in our environment for me the more natural way seems best. This is a new journey for me. Wishing you the best.
Did your doc explain the risks she/he mentioned?
