Tymlos side effects
Has anyone else had leg/back aches with Tymlos? I've been on it since October and lately I've had terrible aches in my legs and lower back, especially at night. Is that one of the known side effects? Thanks!

jessbright,
maybe your Stanford physician would get you a sample Forteo pen to see if you really need to tolerate the pain (and to test their theory). Forteo is 20mcg, Tymlos is 80. Some who cannot tolerate Tymlos don't have any trouble with Forteo.
Tymlos has a preservative that can cause reaction.
Maybe 5 clicks is your max.
Tymlos leaves the body fairly quickly (24 hours) I'd guess that one or two days would tell you whether the medication is causing pain.
Forteo is 20mcg. Tymlos is 80mcg.
I just picked up the Forteo so will be starting on that soon. I had actually thought it had more than Tymlos not less, so this makes more sense. I also didn't know about the preservative possibly causing reactions so that's helpful. Hopefully this will be better!
Thank you @gently. Those are really great suggestions. I also didn’t know about the preservative in Tymlos. I guess that’s why it can be out of fridge. Trying a sample pen of Fortreo is something I wouldn’t have thought to ask. I really appreciate the advice and experience here!
@loh
It sounds like we’re at a similar place with Tymlos and considering switching to Fortreo due to leg pain. I’m not sure about the generic Fortreo having more side effects. But I’ll be really interested in how you do and if you feel better on it than Tymlos.
lot',
I'm wondering if you stopped Tymlos.
I don't think we should be tolerate side effects.
For lots of us these standard doses are simply too high.
Amazing windyshores. She just figured out how to lower the dose and then told her doctors. So now her doctors are advising their patients about how to lower the dose.
Tymlos also contains a preservative that some are allergic to. A reaction to the preservative could alternatively cause leg aches.
Forteo is a lower dose of medication, less likely to cause hypercalcemia and doesn't have the preservative, which is why it needs refrigeration.
Did the aching go away after stopping the drug. Do you remember how long it took?

@gently The leg cramps went away very quickly when I stopped. I did pick up Forteo, but I ended up never using it. At the time, I had several trips coming up and I wasn't sure how to keep up the refrigeration when you are getting on a plane. I also felt overall so much better getting off Tymlos that I was dreading going back on a medication. I have a general checkup next week, so I'll discuss with my doctor then. I'm sure she'll push for me to go back to Forteo and try it. Are you on Forteo?
loh, I wonder if lower doses of Tymlos would have been event free, or if it was the preservative. Anyway, I think you'd have better luck with Forteo. I'd also bet that your bones are still advantaged from having taken Tymlos.
I'm taking Forteo, and I try not to rave about the drug. It has been without side effects for me. If she's pushing bargain for bone markers CTX and P1NP and a serum pth. It you ever want to talk about the drug, it is one of my favorite subjects.
I have been on a reduced dose of Tymlos for 9 days. Prior to Tymlos I had issues with constipation. It improved with hydration, exercise, magnesium and diet changes. Since starting the Tymlos I am experiencing constipation again. Is anyone else having difficulty with constipation? Any suggestions? Thank you.
