Technical Tymlos questions
My first injection will be today. I will start with 1/4 dose..2 clicks. When I turn the dial, will it say 20? I know at the full dose it says 80. Or do I just count the clicks of the dial ?
Storage question: there is a narrow temperature range given for room temperature storage:
Sixty something up to 77 degrees. How will I manage this? I live in Southern California. When it is hot, I do not leave the air conditioner on (window unit)
when I leave the house. It can get up to the 90’s inside. Is there some little plug-in storage box you can buy that maintains consistent temperature to keep the Tymlos in?

daisylou, you have to listen to the clicks. If you turn to fullstop you'll have the full dose. Tymlos can be stored in the refridgerator without the needle attached at max 36degrees F.
Great choice! watch for dizziness in the first couple of hours. Don't forget hydration to protect against vasodilation. Cheers to your osteoblasts.
Thank you for the reply, Gently. I’m worried about storing Tymlos after the first use, where the info flyer says store between 68*F to 77*F.
In the winter my house is down in the 50’s or even upper 40’s at night. Summer up to 98* in the daytime. What to do?
Yes, as someone said, you have to count the clicks. The pen window only shows 0 and 80. Each click counts as 10, so there are a total of eight possible clicks.
You should refrigerate the pen before you use it the first time, but after that, there's no need to do so (unlike Forteo which has to be refrigerated all the time.)
daisylou, how was your injection?
I'm in the Central Valley and agree the heat could destroy your medicine.
I'd considered Tymlos. But was determined to take Forteo. The Amgen rep told me it was safe to leave the opened pen in the refrigerator. Some on this site leave the pens in so that they can take the two or three injections that are usually left after the 30 injections.
You could take the opened pen with you, but there are pen thermoses. https://www.google.com/search?q=amazon+pen+thermoses+for+insulin&oq=amazon+pen+thermoses+for+insulin&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIGCAEQRRhA0gEJMTM5ODZqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
@daisylou
Out of habit I simply put the Tymlos pen in the refrigerator to be safe. Especially if I was using smaller doses so that I could use the pen a few days longer. As listed above, I always went by the sound of the clicks for the dosage amount. Good luck to you!
In the summer heat, I put the tymlos pen in a sandwich size cooler with a little ice spearated by paper towels and carborad. I add a temperature device to check the temps so it doenst go below 68.
In winter you could also use the cooler an an insulator - agian with the temp device to check it doenst get too cool. We pay alot of money for this medicine and need to do all we can to make sure it is useable and potent.
Good luck and happy healing!
Update: I had the first injection at the Dr’s office yesterday, and just gave myself the second one this morning. The sky didn’t fall!! Phew, no reaction thus far. Starting with 2 clicks. Easy peasey and doesn’t hurt.
The Dr said okay to keep the pen in the refrigerator now. I talked to the pharmacist at Optum Rx who said the same thing. The main concern is that it not get too warm. Thank you to all on this site. I am grateful for the help and all that I have learned here
Sorry I missed this question earlier. The injection went very well and I am now a week out and all seems to be going fine. Thank you for the link to the travel thermoses.
