acupuncture for plantar fasciitis?

Posted by lwbarker @lwbarker, Feb 16, 2024

Has anyone tried acupuncture for plantar fasciitis? I have a touch of it in one foot/heel, but my grown daughter has it in both feet and has pain when walking.

I'm late to these posts, but I've had plantar fascitis for over two years. Dr put me in a hard cast that made it worse at the beginning of pain journey and then a walking boot. I'm a firm believer that these things DON'T do any good! Since then I've been doing everything the usual protocol recommends and still have it. In fact it's made my knee and leg hurt constantly due to the shifting of my gait. I'm so frustrated I just want surgery to resolve it permanently. I'm a little apprehensive about it so has anyone had the surgery?

Dear hipgranny,
I feel the pain you're going through. Only when someone 'walks in your
shoes' can they feel your pain. I have been there. Please try Arch Support
with velcro strap. Also, buy something called "Heel Seats" to put in shoes. That name alone should make you smile.
I previously wrote a comment a while back - and wish it could be
reprinted. In it, I wrote about my intense pain from Plantar Fasciitis
and the 'steps' I went through. Grateful to say, I am free of this 'happiness'.
So, hipgranny (you) from another 'hipgranny' (me) ... please try these
suggestions. These aids helped me and pray they will help you as well.
See you in the Ballroom! That would be grand simply to envision.
Good Luck.

I don’t have experience with plantars myself, but my husband has been dealing with heel pain for about a year. He had the shots, PT, night boot, inserts…everything, but nothing really helped. He is now trying shockwave therapy. He just completed his 4th session today. He has been feeling better after each session. The full effect of the treatment should be noticed in a few weeks. Hoping this finally resolves it. He is definitely hopeful. His podiatrist swears by it.

I had acupuncture to treat plantar fasciitis and it was very successful. It took three or four sessions to fix the problem over a period of treatment that lasted about 6 weeks.

Hi @lwbarker, flexible night braces worked best for me. These are worn at night and keep the toes upright and bent toward the front of the leg which prevents the plantar fascia from contracting at night which exacerbates the condition. I used them for years. I also got custom orthotics to insert in my shoes.
My plantar fasciitis made walking excruciating.
I haven't had a recurrence for years.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried heel cups to no avail. Also orthotics and night brace. I know different things work for different people but I'm almost ready for surgery. I'm a little scared to risk a flat foot as the worst outcome. So, I'm about to try Acupuncture. Im desperate because after hip replacement over a year ago my foot is worse and Dr says it's causing my knees to hurt. Also, the hip replacement that was on the opposite leg has started hurting almost as much as before the replacement because my gait has altered so much. To sum it up,I'm miserable 😖. Appreciate prayers please.

Agree its very painful. I've found Grafity Defy shoes that help. Never thought about fixing the pain but might now.
Thank you.
