Cold turkey is no bueno...emergency level side effects are rare (unlike the benzos) but don't stop cold turkey if you don't have to.
Holy crap! I tried that and had a complete emotional breakdown out of the blue in public and it came out of nowhere. Then I was so sick. I had to start taking a lower dosage. I'm so ticked off that I wasn't informed about this med when prescribed. I've been on and off of a number of antidepressants with only brain zaps to deal with but this one is a whole other category of scary to get off of. I'm down to 75 since first week of September and have gotten to where I can take it every other day but get quite sick by the 3rd day - nausea, tired, achy, headaches..
Wow. Just wow. When I ran out of my 150 mg Effexor because I didn't renew my scrip in time, I was suicidal after 5 days. I sat on the floor of my house hunched up against the wall and wanted to die. When I finally 'fessed up to my boyfriend, he insisted I go immediately to my GP's office and get some samples from them. I did, and took one immediately when I got back to my car. BTW I'm pretty strong-willed, so for me to have gotten to that state in such a short time was very significant. Please be careful and do not be alone -- tell someone what you've done and what you're going through -- PLEASE!!
