Has anyone had post Whipple stomach issues ?
I had my Whipple surgery on 1/17 at MSK NYC by Dr Soares. They moved quickly to see if my newly designed stomach would accept liquid then solid food without throwing up. 2 weeks later they put me on a feeding bag for nutrition. They said the bile in my stomach needs to be drained so tomorrow they will put a tube in my stomach. Also tomorrow they will start a feeding cycle for 12 hours so any outside post surgery rehab facility will accept me with those 2 conditions. They said it might take up 3 months for my “dead stomach “ to wake up and recover.
2 questions
1. Has anyone experienced something similar?
2. Anyone know of an excellent inpatient rehab facility near Norwalk CT?
Many thanks!!!

If you are not able to tolerate Ensure or Boost (I found both of them to be way too sweet and thick), try Pure Protein. It has 30 grams of protein, 140 calories and less than 1 gram of sugar.
I had my Whipple surgery 4/24 at The Mayo and two weeks later readmitted for the same issues. It took almost two weeks before things settled down and got back to normal. Hang in there.
glad you are better. I had my Whipple surgery on Nov 25, 2024. I continue with pain, weakness, but the good news is that I can eat almost all my little portion without any issues except burp and gas. What bothers me is the pain. Should I ask for a Ct scan?
I went through all of that process. Mine was complicated too for an infection that I resolved in two weeks in the hospital. Everything went well at the end. Give it time. What bothers me is the pain that it is not gone. Yes I lost 20 lbs. No, unfortunately I do not know of a rehab, but lucky you are authorized, my insurance denied it.
How have you been?
Try also Premier, it is not so sweet.
I haven't tried them yet, but a health nut friend of mine recommended the Orgain brand organic shakes.
You can choose between plant-based protein and animal-based protein versions: https://orgain.com/collections/protein-shakes
I see they can be ordered on Amazon.
