Positive For High-Grade Urothelial Carcinoma on Urine Test
My husband is 63 yrs old and has had blood in his urine since September….it has been on and off. He told me about it a few weeks ago and I encouraged (practically pushed) him to go to a Urologist. On Jan 10th, he gave a urine sample. On the 14th we received the results on My Chart:
Final Diagnosis:
Positive for High Grade Urothelial Carcinoma
Description:
Cellularity is high. Architecture includes single cells. Nuclear changes present include nuclear enlargement, variation in nuclear size, Hyperchromasia , High N:C ratio and Nuclear Membrane irregularity.
Red Blood Cells are Present. Inflammation is Present. Squamous cells are present.
This case was shown to the Cytopathology consensus conference on 01/14/2025 at Yale University Pathology.
My husband goes for a CT scan urogram tomorrow morning at 8:15. The urologist assistant said it would take up to 40 min. She also made an appointment for a Csytoscopy.
We are 99% sure it’s bladder cancer. We will know for sure tomorrow or the next day. I was told the Urologist will call.
I’ve been reading about all your symptoms and treatments….I have to say ….you are all very courageous and are a big encouragement to me.
Would you all keep, my husband Dwight, in your prayers. He has never smoked nor worked with any chemicals. His father & mother are 93…no cancer. But I’m learning , all of that really doesn’t matter much.
Thank you for keeping Dwight in your prayers. It is a comfort to me.

Rose,
I hope your husband’s TURBT went well and that he is beyond the discomfort of a catheter. I have had two sessions of Gemcitabine and Docetaxel. The first session was difficult for a myriad of reasons unrelated to the chemicals used. I had my second session yesterday. It was better. I am conferring with a consulting oncologist. I hope it will give me assistance in determining whether I have the right treatment plan. The literature suggests there is a high (65+%) chance of recurrence. I am looking beyond the chemo I am receiving to figure out if I have a physician with the right plan. My treating physician is peremptory; he is not one for answering questions. In fact, after the second TURBT, he called, said he had ordered chemo and that I would get a call from the infusion center. He didn’t tell me if the chemo was systemic or intravesical. He didn’t tell me what agents would be used, I emailed him through MyChart. His PA responded. It’s frustrating. But I have a plan. I have great support of family and friends. I get a lot of prayers. My wife is a saint. 🙏
Good News! Husband for his 3 month checkup. Which included a mant test and a cystocopy. No Cancer. Thank You Jesus. 2 more BCG which I call maintenance.
Sine this all began last April my husband has such anxiety. I have never seen him like this in the 21 years we have been together. By the way he is never sick.
Cancer Free! Thank You Jesus. It has been quite a journey. So grateful for Dr. Tyson Phoniex Mayo Clinic and the many nurses.
@schew5515 God bless your husband. So happy he is cancer free!! Jesus is with him always! 🙏🥳🕊️ Go celebrate!
@delavan yes, my husband is all done with the TURBT and has that Foley Catheter out. He hated that! Dwight is also on Gemcitabine….but with Cisplatin. He has one week with Gem/Cis . The next week only Gem for 1/2 hour. 3rd week he has off. So, he’ll be hooked up 8x. Praying for no bad side effects. I know God will take him through this….just like he is doing for you.
After 8 treatments…he’ll get a CT Scan…then a complete RC. That’s the Plan. Yes, it seems as though you have questions for your doctor. That’s smart contacting him on MY CHART. I brought my notebook in his office with some questions for him….wrote everything down he said. Dwight will get a port put in and some Emla Cream to put on 1 hour before so the IV doesn’t hurt going in.
His first treatment is Feb 18th. I’ll stay with him and bring my knitting. First, Blood Draw…then meet with doc or nurse, then treatment. The nurse showed us a refrigerator/freezer filled with all sorts of goodies we never have at home. Also, my favorite =coffee station. I’m glad you have your wife by your side…you’ll get better faster! Prayer is so powerful…happy to know you have supportive family and friends. God bless you and I’ll be praying for you…for a complete cancer free life xx
