Changed barrier design and now leaks. What can I do?

For years I have been using the Hollister 14903 barrier and pouch system for my colostomy. With my last shipment they changed the design but it is the same number. The new design just does not adhere to the stoma area the way the old one did and I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

I use Convatec had the same problem ,leakage in the wafer. A wound care nurse told me to cut wafer slighty larger than stoma and the ring on slightly smaller than stoma . Warm both in your hands for about a minute or two ,open both up and attach together, then apply a small amount of barrier wipe around stoma just dap it. then apply both attached pieces and push on for a minute. It helped me out.

Can you use stoma powder with skin tac

Yes you can, I do. I sprinkle the powder down, blow of any excess, then dab the skin Tac over top. It will sting for a couple seconds when you do that over an open sore though, so be prepared. Then I wipe skin Tac over the entire area around the stoma let it dry a couple seconds then apply the appliance.

Try using Stoma Paste with the barrier ring.

@eric320, you got some great tips from members. Did you find something that works for you? How are you doing?

I use my hair dryer (low setting) for a few seconds to make it more tacky and flexible. Keep it far enough away and briefly, don't melt it. Was told to rub it between my hands but never worked 💪

Welcome, @lizred6155. Helpful tip. I bet you had to experiment with your hair dryer, how far to hold it away to not melt the ring and for how long. Every hair dryer is different too.

How long have you been living with an ostomy? How are you doing?
