Dental work while on Reclast?

I have been there. I think orthodontic work is perfectly fine. I know from bone doc and maxofacial surgeon that one should NOT have dental extractions 5 years after Reclast, also not certain root canals those which go high up in the bone. I abided by that. It ruined my smile. But I did not want Osteonecrosis. The surgeon at a major university hospital vividly gave me a portrait of what could happen re osteonecrosis.

I’m wondering how is someone supposed to wait five years to have a tooth pulled or a root canal if it’s needed. It’s crazy! And the doctors tell you this without even blinking like it’s no big deal. I’m supposed to go on Reclast after Tymlos. I’m terrified. But I don’t what my options are other than a biphosphonate. I’d be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

Thx So much for sharing! I’m 60 yrs -had first Zometa(it’s Reclast-slightly different dosing as along with osteoporosis I’m hoping to minimize risk of breast cancer Mets) in October-next one this April 2025-a few old fillings in back teeth (4 of them) now showing cracks-prosthodontic doc recommended crowns (of course not at once) and he feels comfortable but I worry he could crack tooth but I also can’t baby my teeth more than I am as recommended 3 yrs Zometa/Reclast to help as on AI’s for Breast Cancer for 8-10 yrs and I'm only two years in. I’m going to start with two crowns but honestly petrified. What did your oral surgeon share about “worst case” if you don’t mind sharing ? Xoxo
