Mammogram with chemo port guidelines

Hi @ssaz. I had two mammograms with my port in place. I was told the same thing, that I should discuss it with the tech. Still nervous, I reached out to my chemo doctor, who assured me that mammograms could be done with a port in place, and I should just make the tech aware. I did that, had both mammograms, and for me there were no problems. My tech was great and very mindful of my port. If you are unsure, maybe reach out to your doctor for guidance? Good luck, sending positive thoughts your way!

@polkagal That was my experience as well. I have had 2 mammograms with my port in place immediately above my breastbone. The techs were very much aware of my port and had no difficulty with the mammogram.

This is also a good place to remind everyone that they still need mammograms in addition to their scans. I was under the misapprehension my PET-CT scans were sufficient. My oncologist and GP were both horrified when it came out in conversation that I’d stopped doing mammograms.
