Prolia is injection ever 6 mo.
Evenity is monthly injections
I want to start Evenly but Rheumatologist wants me to start Reclast due to the warning of heart problem black box warning. No heart problems but I do have high BP. Also, I thought Evenity was one injection every month for 12 months? Good luck!
For context: I’m a 60 year old, healthy, active, petite woman. Three years ago, I have developed unexplained mild tachycardia that cardiologists have told me and continue to tell me not to worry about. My blood pressure has always been on the low side of normal.
A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my lumbar spine, hip, and femoral neck. The worst was my T-score for my lumbar spine was -3.5. I went ahead with my endocrinologist’s recommendation of Evenity first to build up bone, to be followed by a different drug to help maintain it. I just completed my course of Evenity in December (2 injections every 28 days, for a year.) I did not have any symptoms at all with the exception of mild soreness at the injection sites. No changes to my heart.
I just got my DEXA scan results a few days ago and the most significant change is my T-score for my lumbar spine (done by the same technician on the same machine) improved from -3.5 to -2.4, moving me from osteoporosis to the osteopenia category. I was happily surprised by the results. (My T-score for my hip improved slightly and my femoral neck worsened slightly. Both still in the osteoporosis category.)
I will say that I took it upon myself to work with a nutritionist to learn what foods contribute to or rob my body of calcium, and the importance of Vitamin K2 to help direct calcium to the bones, and Magnesium to help absorb calcium (along with Vitamin D) and I also took it upon myself work with a physical therapist to strengthen my core. I believe doing these things have contributed to my improved results with my lumbar spine and hip.
(BTW, I had my first Reclast infusion three weeks ago and have had horrible side effects. I have a follow-up appointment with my endocrinologist this week to discuss them.)
Good luck.
There is a cardiac warning on Evenity. However, I have cardiomyopathy and my cardiologist said he would be fine with my going on the drug -- he felt it didn't present a risk in my case. If you have concerns, you should consult a cardiologist before using the drug.
I am getting ready for my 2nd dose tomorrow. Surprised I only felt a bit more achy in my lower back and hips. But that could be the cold month of January. I have upped my calcium and D and also doing collagen and working my mind set to get more exercise. That’s the tuff one. Will keep posting progress.
Thanks so much!!! I'm pretty sure I'm going to choose Evenity, also - I love hearing your experience with it.
Warm regards and all good things...

Hi. Yes, I shared my specific side effects on the discussion thread “Bone Pain for Months after Reclast infusion.”
Hi @nemorose,
Here is the warning from the Evenity label:
"EVENITY may increase the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death [see Warnings and Precautions (5.1)]. EVENITY should not be initiated in patients who have had a myocardial infarction or stroke within the preceding year. Consider whether the benefits outweigh the risks in patients with other cardiovascular risk factors. If a patient experiences a myocardial infarction or stroke during therapy, EVENITY should be discontinued. "
This warning indicates the elevated cardiovascular risks are for those who have recently experienced one the above-mentioned episodes. This is something you will want to discuss with your provider that prescribed Evenity.
I combined your discussion with an existing discussion, titled:

Here, many members have discussed this warning and concerns about who may be effected by this warning.

hi, nemorose. If you have existing cardiac issues, choose a different medication. The FDA does give us a big black box warning.
I'm waiting for the real world results to play out and that may take decades.
Maybe the black box will be eventually be removed.
The easy thing about Evenity is the every month injection, and that most insurance pay for it without hassle.
Other side effects discourage me. But some don't experience any extra aches and pains.
I'd encourage Forteo or Tymlos as a medication to start.
Bless your choice.
