Just diagnosed with osteoporosis and was told to take Fosamax? (pn) I have not started it yet due to my worries about side effects and lots of expensive dental work is coming up. My doctor told me to take Fosamax and to take Omega 3 (plant based), calcium, magnesium and zinc. Also to do weight bearing exercise which I am doing. I also walk one mile and a quarter every day. I have dry eye and am a chronic insomniac. I am up at least eight times per night. I have essential tremor which my mother had and my son now has it. He is forty-seven. Mine is getting worse and has spread to the left hand. My diet is excellent and I don't take any pills or other meds. I am an eighty-one yo female. Help? My former doc referred me to a neurologist, but can't get in for eight months?

The current thinking on osteoporosis medication is to start with a bone builder(anabolic) like tymlos, forteo, evenity. If your doctor is not an expert in treating osteoporosis he may not be up to date on medications and sequencing. What were your dexa scan scores? Make sure you are reading the offerings here and other research so that you are well prepared for speaking with your provider. Can you get a referral to an endocrinologist.
