Side Effects of Shingles Vaccine

Posted by ssbionicknee @ssbionicknee, Sep 20, 2018

I got the flu shot and the new shingles vaccination 3 days ago. Today I started feeling sick to my stomach. I've never had a reaction to the flu shot and was wondering if anyone else felt sick after getting the shingles vaccine?

Thank you! My daughter and I wanted to make this trip when she was in high school 15 years ago, but it didn’t work out for us then. Now we are both feeling like it’s the right time. I will post some pictures when we return.

I have not had my shots yet but my doctor did say that I will be sick aftet the second shot. He said I should not have side effects from first shot.

It’s HIGHLY variable on side effects from the Shingles vaccine. I had it, my H had it and my 90+ year old mom all had it. Mom and I had NO reaction other than mild tenderness at injection site for 24 hours. H felt like he had the flu both times he got the shoot & 2nd shot for about 36-48 hours. I got him to take Alleve sooner the 2nd shot so he felt better sooner, but people all react SO differently.

It is highly variable. I had both shots and no side effects or reaction to either one.

In November I got the flu shot at the pharmacy and two weeks later I got the Shingrex and Pneumonia vaccines at my doctor’s office. By the next day I had a bad stomach ache. No vomiting or diarrhea, just stomach ache that intensified as the days went on. I had no fever and other than the stomach ache I was ok. I took Pepcid and Gaveston, both are OTC antacids. I also took the ginger gravol, even though I didn’t have nausea as it soothed my stomach.
It all lasted for about 2 weeks in total and gradually the stomach pain lessened until it was gone.

I have read that several people experienced elevated BPs. After my 1st shot, I was ill for 3 days; felt horrible. After my booster shot, felt horrible again for days. Three weeks later my BP shot up to 200/99, which lead to me having a stroke. Prior to the 2nd shot, my BP averaged around 112/low 70s. My BP continues to be high eveen after taking medication for it. I tell everyone to stay away from the shots. Too many side effects and and some potentially dangerous. Luckily, my stroke was a mild one; however, won't recommend the innoculation to anyone. I would have preferred getting shingles over a stroke.

I had a similar reaction, but after the first shot, I decided shingles was preferable (I had already had a bout a couple years earlier) to getting the 2nd shot. It took months for my blood pressure to stop spiking, and now, a couple years later it is still higher on average than where it was before the shot.

@ssboett2000 My father who is 90 has had both Shingrix jabs during the last 5 months and had no trouble at all. He also had the RSV jab at the same time as his second jab, in the other arm. I had a very painful injection site both times after Shingrix. If I rolled onto the site at night it woke me up. Didn’t last more than 48 hours though. No way do I want to get shingles!! Small price to pay/ I had terrible chicken pox when I was a child, and I’d probably get terrible shingles.

I had no side effects with the Prevnar 20 pneumococal vaccine...none. With Shingrix...sore arm. Had a friend that had a painful case of Shingles and a relative who was in misery. Decided that I wanted to reduce my risk of comimg down with a case.
