I think you'd be intrigued the experience. Not totally dark of course--stars etc. and with luck the northern lights. And by January there were a few hours of dusk each day. Icelanders I knew tended to go stir crazy and pop off to Spain for a week! But they also encouraged me to visit in winter--a dreamy introverted time for me--although it was ordinary life too with folks just going to work in the dark.
How great that you saw the eclipse! I've chased two in recent years and find it magical.

Wow! Now I really want to go in the winter, especially since you mentioned the northern lights. I have never experienced that before, either. As to the darkness, I would love to see the stars glittering in the dark sky at noon! That would be something special!

The eclipse was totally cool (figuratively and literally). When the sun was totally blocked and we had total darkness, there was a big drop in temperature. Once the sun became visible again, the temperature went back up. It was amazing!
